About Amesbury Public Library
Amesbury Public Library is a welcoming and well-loved community space with a rich history, designed in 1900 by local architect Penn Varney. Recently renovated, the interior now features a modern, friendly atmosphere with a new wing added in 1954. The library has undergone improvements, replacing old staff with newer, kinder employees who provide helpful service. Visitors praise the helpful librarians who curate a variety of interesting materials, including sci-fi, horror, science, and philosophy. The library offers a diverse range of resources such as graphic novels, board games, and even video games for the Switch, making it stand out among larger libraries. The teen section has a hang-out feel with activities and charging stations, appealing to younger visitors. Its charming architecture and curated collections make it a favorite spot for locals of all ages, blending literary richness with a cozy, community-focused environment.

6 years ago I wrote a rather negative review on here, and they seemed to listen to i and everyone else about our complaints, the entire inside has been renovated, they have cycled out old employees with newer, more kinder ones. This is what a library should be like, well done Amesbury!

Designed by local architect Penn Varney and constructed in 1900, the Romanesque Revival-style Amesbury Public Library stands near the end of Main Street. The only addition to the library since its construction was a new wing in 1954.

Love this place, been coming since I was a little kid!!! Bring my son here too. One of the few libraries in the Merrimack Valley consortium that loans out video games for the Switch!
