WORST. BANK. EVER. Avoid at all costs. Most frustrating and incompetent bank I've ever dealt with. My father had a HELOC and a checking account at Citizens Bank, and when he passed away, I paid off the HELOC and tried to close the accounts. I am my father's executor and I have all the documents (death certificate, letters of authority etc) to prove it. I live in CA and they have no branches here so I have to do it by phone. I've had many, many phone calls with them and every time I get a different story and they ask me for something new. I've sent in the info they requested by physical mail, email and fax, but they still won't close the accounts. It's a nightmare. And whenever you send them any new information, it takes several weeks to get posted in their system.

I used a card of another bank to withdraw money. ATM machine in this branch glitched and didn't dispense cash ($500). My bank said that the withdrawal was successful. The bank manager denied to do audits or call a technician to fix the machine. They stole my money. Terrible experience!!!!!

This was an awesome bank to do business with but now it is the worst. You call the branch and nobody answers. You call the automated customer service and you have a forty five minute wait. They are welcoming new HSBC customers!! They should try to accommodate the ones they already have.....Time for a new bank.

I had the worst customer experience of my life with Citizens Bank. I applied for a new home equity line in July and it took until November to close. I was asked for documents five separate times - most of them were things I had already provided. One day I got a phone call asking for a list of documents and a letter asking for an entirely different list. I ignored the letter and was never asked for those documents again. After I complained to the local branch manager I got a call from a customer support person who said she would work with me all the way through to closing. She called twice and knew less than I did about what was going on. She never called again. In the last two weeks before closing I received 5 texts telling me they were ready to close and asking me to call to schedule the closing. All five times I was told that, in fact, it was not ready to close. When I finally got a call to schedule the closing I was told it had to happen within two days because the application was so old that they would need new documents if it took longer than that.

I used the ATM tonight. It was easy and no issues for me to take care of my banking business. I was grateful this ATM is easy to use because the one two blocks away would only show me my balance.

Citizens bank sent me a pre approval for a Master Card, with an offer of bonus of 150 dollars based on certain stipulations about spending. I agreed to accept their credit card, but strangely, their latest info contains absolutely nothing about the bonus 150 dollars that they offered to get me to take the card. I called the number on the card I received, I got nothing but a run around , was put on hold , at least three times, wasted at least forty minutes trying to get an answer. There was no answer in the end, no confirmation that I have that bonus amount available. If you get an offer, be sure to keep your proof of any bonus promised, since , they are not likely to confirm that in the end. As far as I am concerned this is nothing more than a fraud, ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

WOOF. I came in to do a cash advance from my credit card. I'm not a banking expert, but I have done these frequently as a non customer and BELIEVE the bank gets some type of fee from VISA. I've never had an issue completing one at any bank. I'd have also been happy to pay a fee to do so. Or if they simply didn't provide this service that would be fine. But they said they did - so, great. Anyways, I came in and everythings going smoothly and I present my ID. Refused. My ID is a state issued ID, and because it's not a drivers license, they wouldn't take it. Again, I'm not a banking expert, but I'm pretty sure banking has absolutely nothing to do with operating a vehicle so this shouldn't matter. It proves my identity with photo and is issued by the state of Massachusetts - just like a drivers license. I can fly using this ID - so why wouldn't I be able to bank with it? I've never encountered a problem elsewhere. Then, they asked if I'm a customer - no. The teller basically threw my ID and card back at me and said "we can't accept this ID". So if I was a customer, my ID would be fine and this arbitrary 'drivers only' rule wouldn't apply? Why not ask me if I'd like to open an account? Try being a little friendly? Further - their website explicitly lists that they DO accept state issued non-driver photo IDs. In fact, they accept an entire assortment of non driver type IDs - including a combo of student and work ID, passport, etc. - none of which they offered to me. I asked the teller who the manager is so I could inquire why I need to be a driver in order to use Citizens Bank services, and she curtly told me that 'he says you can't use your ID'. Ok, then who is his manager? Because this doesn't seem right.... 'I'm not telling you'. Okay. Whatever. I was considering opening an account here because it's convenient to my location, but never mind. EDIT: Heard back from Citizens on this and they won't provide an answer as to why my valid ID wasnt accepted, but simply provided this as their solution "a company can make up any policy it wants". They sure can. And I won't be banking there ever.

I am a graduate student in Boston MA attempting to finish a Master's Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. To obtain this degree you are required to do 2 unpaid internships. I am in my second internship working with at risk youth in inner-city Boston. Not only is the internship unpaid, but it costs A LOT of money as it is part of the degree program. Consequently, I am dependent on financial aid to pay rent, bills, food, etc. My account at citizens became over drawn in January 2019. I reasoned that, when I received my financial aid via direct deposit into my citizen's account, the balance would be covered and I could pay rent, bills, etc. On 2/11/19 I received electronic notification that my school had send $8,000 plus dollars via direct deposit to my Citizens account. I checked my account. It was no longer over drawn, but the balance was $0. I called and was told, "We closed your account because it was over drawn for too long." I received NO notification that the account was closed. 2/11/19 was the first time I was told, "Our recovery department will send a check to the address we have on file once we check and make sure the funds are good, please hold." I was put on hold. The staff person came back and said, "Funds are verified. We will get a check in the mail to you tomorrow. It is now 2/28. We have turned of internet, electricity, heat, and hot water to save money. Let me tell you, living in Boston without heat in the winter is rough. A good side effect is that I've dropped 2 sizes in the past month because I can't afford food. Poverty is truly the best diet. I am not naive enough to think Citizen's bank cares about any of these circumstances, but I thought they would keep their word, stop holding my school funds hostage, and would send me my check when they first promised... not said... but PROMISED, they would, which was 2/11/19. I was just informed not 5 minutes ago that the check was never sent. (Keep in mind, I have called at least 7 times since that first call on 2/11, each time being met with the same process, "Please hold while we verify the funds, funds are verified, we are emailing to have your check sent immediately). Now, facing eviction, I have consulted legal advice. It seems I will have to drop out of school (I was only supposed to have 3 months until I graduate by the way), so that I can work a paid job. It is too late to withdraw from the semester with courses refunded. So, I will be paying for not one, but two extra semester of school because I will have to restart my second internship. in the fall. Citizen's bank, in one month, has exposed me to living without heat and electricity in the cold New England winter. Citizen's bank has provided me with the experience of living in true poverty. Citizen's bank has triggered a depression so intense, I have been prescribed mood elevators which are drastically affecting multiple parts of my psyche. Citizen's bank has pushed my relationship with my partner to the breaking point. I wish citizen's bank had been honest from day one. I wish when I asked, "Can you set up a checking account with NO over draft fees? e.g., if I don't have the funds, the purchase is declined?" Citizen's bank said "Yes." This was a lie. I wish Citizen's bank had told me they were going to close my account. They never did. I wish citizen's bank didn't lie about sending me a check. This lie caused me to lie to my landlord who has reached the end of his grace. Citizen's bank has walked me through what has been the worst banking experience of my life. The side effects of this experiences will be affecting my life for the foreseeable future. As I go public with my story via youtube, facebook, instagram, I leave my comments here for the edification of other young professionals seeking higher education who do not come from money or privilege. This bank will add to your stress

I come here every pay day. They have max 2 tellers. W. T. F. The line is always crazy, how can't you have more than 2 people out. Sometimes it's just one. Common now...

Had to stop in to get a form renotarized. They helped me instantly and they were incredibly friendly about it. I could not have had a better experience with this branch.

Ok, for the full disclosure it is not about this branch but rather about the whole Citizens Bank company. Terrible and shocking are not even the words to describe the experience I've had. Out of the blue, with no explanation I received the letter from them that my accounts are being closed! And that is after 27 years of being their Premier Platinum customer. I had 5 accounts with them including money market account. The terminating letter was dated a month before the date I got it... and it came two weeks after the date on the letter giving me only two weeks to go elsewhere. I called them to find out why, they refused to tell me! They sent me the check with the balances from my money market and savings accounts with NO INTEREST earned for the last month. When I inquired where my interest is from money market account they said that if either party terminates the relationship you don't get the interest for the last month! What a racket! So they can decide to terminate the relationship and keep the interest from your money for the last month! Imagine if you owe them money for a loan and when you pay it off you don't pay interest for the last month? I am still waiting for my money from my checking account which hasn't come in since they closed the account 2 weeks ago... I am going to complain to attorney general office because at this point I am not sure that I will see my money! Too bad there is no option for no stars at all as I gave one star when in fact they don't deserve any.
