About Kings Chapel Burying Ground
Kings Chapel Burying Ground is a historic cemetery located in downtown Boston, serving as a notable stop along the city's Freedom Trail. Established in 1630, it is the oldest burial ground in Boston and has remained intact as the city has grown around it. The grounds offer a glimpse into the city's past, with the graves of prominent figures such as John Winthrop, Massachusetts' first governor, and Mary Chilton, the first woman to step off the Mayflower, among the many historical markers. Visitors can explore the serene setting, taking in the ornate gated structures and old, weathered gravestones that dot the landscape. While the adjacent Kings Chapel itself does not open until 10 AM, the burying ground can be visited throughout the day at no cost. Guided history tours are also available on a Monday through Saturday schedule from 10 AM to 5 PM, providing deeper insight into the site's significance. Whether visiting as part of the Freedom Trail or simply to appreciate the historical charm, Kings Chapel Burying Ground offers a peaceful and fascinating window into Boston's early days. With its mix of architectural elements and notable interments, it is a must-see attraction for those interested in the city's rich heritage.

Even though it may be small, this little cemetery has lots of notable gravestones.

Gravestones at the back aren't taken care of very well and the graveyard is washing/eroding away.
