Architecture by Le CorbusierThe building here is more meaningful than the exhibition.Born in Switzerland in 1887, he was an important figure in architecture. He is not simply a person who left behind beautiful buildings, but a pioneer in architectural theory who broke the stereotypes of existing buildings and created new techniques for modern architecture. For example, a building is expressed with exposed concrete.A person who influenced Tadao Ando

Le Corbusier's only building in N America houses the Carpenter visual arts center. It stands out on a campus dominated by red brick. An exciting exhibition and work space it is currently running a remounting of four artists- Richard Fulton, Renee Green, Pierre Huyghe, Pope L, all in conversation with this space created by Le Corbusier's building, now celebrating its 60th anniversary -'This machine creates opacities'

The Carpenter Center for the Visual Arts is the home of the Department of Art, Film, and Visual Studies at Harvard, the Harvard Film Archive, as well as a public gallery. Perhaps the most interesting thing about this 1962 building is its modernist design. It's the only Le Corbusier building in North America and features two large ramps that allow you to walk right up to the galleries at its core. Even if you don't go inside, large windows allow you to peer into students and faculty members at work in their studios. As for the museum galleries, they're free to the public during regular hours and feature rotating exhibitions.

Came here to visit a friend who is a professor. Got to see his office, the museum component, the cafe. What a lovely space to feel your Cretaceous juices flowing.

Go Corbu! Another gem to visit on your Boston Architectural tour. The approach to the building is up symmetrical ramps from either side of the building. Lot's of heavy concrete and interesting view corridors.

cool art studio / gallery by Le Corbusier, his only building in north america so a must visit if you are in town. unfortunately the glorious original ramp was severed and partially replaced with the harvard art museum's new construction, absolutely disgraceful and in poor taste if you ask me. still an important piece of architecture to experience. there are some small temporary exhibits. most of the building is dedicated to housing art studios for the university's students.

Le Corbusier's only building in North America is also home to a small art gallery and bookshop, and some of the University's visual arts programs. The building has great ramps, an open feel, and a very nice patio garden, with heady lavender, a few chairs and tables. My son and I popped into the gallery, and enjoyed it. We sat and took a break by the lavender- if I went to Harvard, or worked here, I'd be at this patio all the time. The building is the star here, though, check it out!
