This review is primarily about the prepared food section which is enormous. It rivals Wegmans in terms of size and variety. Okay, Wegmans does have the edge, but the prices are far better here. From the delicatessen, to the La Carte prepared entries, bakery, Noodle bar, sushi bar, lots of chicken choices, many dozens of ready to eat meals plus many made to order choices in all these spaces. I've never had good supermarket sushi some reluctant to try but even that looks better than most. It's right next to the fresh produce section which I must say looks a heck of a lot better than any other Star Market I've been to. On the spectrum from Whole Foods and Russo's to Lambert's at the low end, I have to say this Market is closest to Whole Foods in terms of presentation and the freshness look of the products. They must do a big business in prepared foods because it's very well staffed. The cheese Shop looks pretty good too, and they sell wine. Okay, I tried the spicy tuna sushi because it was on promo sale for six bucks. I thought you wasn't bad but keep in mind I'm here at 11:00 in the morning. Your experience picking sushi after it's sat all day maybe different.

So I ordered from the app store market and I said 2:00 to 6:00 it is now an hour and a half late I called them up three times in the first two times they put me on hold for 30 minutes to an hour.... The second time when the manager finally picked up I asked him where my order was and he said no one ever picked it up well if no one ever picked it up why didn't you call me or call the company to find out why that's not happening I called them and I live chat and said where is my order and they said that to deliver is going to be on its way find out they never picked it up.... I had to run down to the convenience store just to buy mac and cheese so my kid could eat tonight cuz this groceries for tonight.... I don't suggest anyone ordering from the app... And I think this is the last time I'm going to shop at Star market because I've always had problems with them the one in Porter the seafood guy is extremely rude and doesn't care about cross-contamination.... If my order does not come in tonight's then I'm going to call corporate and talk to them to get my refund my full refund and I'm going to take my business elsewhere to whole foods or stop & shop....So I called them back and has been now two and a half hours late ..I'm still calling corporate tomorrow morning first thing in the morning...the manger didn't do anything to make this better ....and every time I called him ..he avoided me and I had to talk to the front desk worker...

This location we use and normally enjoy the fruit & produce. My husband went and drove there today and picked up some of the fruit that is pre-packaged. They are two for $10. He did not look at the label and it was packed on January 28 and today is February 2. I went to open it this evening and it was all bad. I checked the label and I could see it was expired so we checked the second one and that was expired as well. My husband had to go all the way back to the store to get the refund. He went and picked up one as the other still on shelf was expired. It makes me wonder why there's no one in produce that checks fruits out to see if they are expired. I feel horrible if someone elderly couldn't read the fine print and had expired food. Its a pain to have to drive all the way back over there to get the refund. It's too bad because they normally have very good fruit there.

I like this location because it's close to my house and because of my job I have to visit a few times a day. While some staff are very nice and helpful some are very rude. But what's really aggravating is when customers are checking out some cashiers are on their phones and ignoring the customers. In my opinion it's really disrespectful. When a cashier does that to me I don't go to their register anymore. They can use their phone but not when someone is checking out.

buyer beware if you're looking to buy stuffed clams, walk away from buying Matlaws , it is stuffed with more bread than clams, we couldn't even taste the clams it was like eating the stuffing you make at Thanksgiving

As a community nurse working in the town of this star market, the staff were extremely rude. The power had shut down, but I needed to go to the bathroom badly. Sadly, the first people said nothing. Then some loud mouth lady with dark hair said no one could come in. I told her I just needed to use the bathroom but she said no again. I rely on public bathrooms to work in this community to serve Cambridge elderly and disabled. As I walked away, she had a good laugh. Devil woman

Many of the people who work in this store are nice, including the people at the pharmacy who are doing a great job with the flood of people looking for shots, but also many of the grocery store employees are horrible and openly hostile. What put me over the edge of writing this review is that I called just now to ask if they had something and where to look for it there, because I am across town and can't find a store that has it, and the customer service person on the phone told me they had it but to "come in to the store and figure it out." When I lived really close to this store, I would drive out of my way to get groceries elsewhere because whenever I went there I would leave upset from people being so rude (again, even though some of them are perfectly kind/nice). Managers should know that whoever was working at customer service just now (5:06pm, 11/22) cost you my business today. Also, this place is overpriced - many things cost more than even at Whole Foods. And the sidewalk is littered with trash. I know it's hard to find employees lately, but there was a major attitude problem at this store long before the pandemic, and today was the last straw for me.

This is an okay supermarket in general, and there are regularly pretty good sales both in-store and through the app, but there are some definite downsides. One, there is a persistent very gross sour smell around the refrigerated cases near the bakery/cheese department. It's been like that for years and I can't believe that no one smells it or has done anything about it. I just have to hold my breath when walking through. Two, the self-checkout has the most sensitive scales in the history of the universe. It makes it almost not even worth it to use, given that every time I do, the system starts beeping and yelling at me to "remove unscanned item from bagging area" when in fact I have properly scanned everything. Weirdly, it also yells at you if you *don't* put your item in the bagging area, so you can't just save yourself the trouble and bag on the floor/in a cart. And God help you if you try to use your own bags in the self checkout -- there's pretty much no way to do it without requiring employee intervention. But, self-checkout doesn't have to be this way! Somehow Target manages to have self-checkout that lets you scan and bag your items like a normal human and doesn't require an employee to come over and reset the system three times.

I haven't written a review on here in forever but had such a positive experience I wanted to take a minute to let you know about it. I have been going here for many years and the service inside is always good and they have a nice selection of food and nice people who work here. But recently I tried their drive up app where you can place orders online and they bring it out to your car and I find this service to be exceptional. It's less expensive than using instacart, way faster and I've tried it 4 times so far and every time the items they have picked have been great and it's super fast and a great deal. The one time I had an issue was when we got the order and I guess some garlic fell out at some point and wasn't in our bag. They contacted us before we even noticed it was missing and actually offered to drop it off for free. We ended up being right by the store so we didn't need them to drop it off but it was really nice that they offered. The people that are running this end of the store really seem extra focused on customer service so if you are thinking of giving their online order or app functionality a try I highly recommend it. I will definitely be ordering through this more in the future!

Terribly run store, and unsafe during COVID! The only reason I shop here is because it's close to home, but I'm about to start going elsewhere. On every visit for months after COVID mask mandates started, I would encounter 2-6 employees without masks. I complained to the front end manager for months, then to the assistant manager, and finally the store manager before I saw any change. I still regularly see maskless employees eating at the registers, which should probably be a no-no even under normal circumstances - that's what break rooms are for. At one point a cashier accosted me at length for wearing a Black Lives Matter t-shirt - in front of a black bagger - and I regularly encounter a particularly loud employee who shouts conspiracy theories about the 2020 presidential election having been stolen across the aisles to his co-workers. None of this makes me feel at all safe shopping here - or that this is safe workplace for its employees, for that matter.

The only reason I shop here is because it's less than a mile from my home. Every time I go, I vow not to go again. During the spring surge of Covid, I had an employee laugh at me for asking if he could step aside (for distance sake) while I selected something off a shelf. I submitted a complaint and never received a response. All of their Covid precautions seem to be for the sake of appearance only. Hand sanitzer and sanitary wipe dispensers are often empty. The display of "clean baskets" and "used baskets" is usually empty. I was in the store yesterday and it was crowded and I challenge whether they were under their posted capacity. You can never find a small cart. They pack so many extra displays in aisles and at the ends of aisles it creates even more crowding (Covid aside, it always feels overcrowded). The produce is not very good. It is expensive and it feels dirty. Seems poorly managed overall. I WILL start shopping somewhere else.

I'm not writing about the Star Market itself, I'm writing about the woman who owns and runs the Osco Pharmacy. I want to say so much about her and I've waited a long time cause I honestly hate conveying bad vibes, but this woman is a piece of work and I'd like to warn others about her. She makes me so uneasy every time I go there or even call on the phone. She'll put you on hold for 10 minutes without a care in the world and I can feel the spite seeping from her pores. No people skills whatsoever, no patience and a brutal attitude. She forgets who she is serving and how to properly treat who she is serving-Us her customers. You may ask - Why don't you go elsewhere? It's because I have two doctors who send multiple medications there and also - WHY SHOULD I? Why can't she realize that she depends on her customers for the food on her table? She has allot to learn about business and public relations. It's a shame there are people like this in the world.

The store had a few special items in stock tonight that I have yet to find anywhere else - Strawberry flavoured Spindrift and a specific brand of paleo banana bread that I like. I didn't purchase any sparkling water during my visit, but I snagged two packs of paleo banana bread while they were on sale for half price. There were four loaves of banana bread left in the froze section; two were past the expiration date and the remaining two were unexpired. You can guess which two I bought! I'm looking forward to grabbing an eight can pack of Strawberry Spindrift at some point, so long as they have some before the sell-by date. Finding some rare goodies every now and then is the only benefit for shopping at a grocery store with absurdly overpriced products. They're open til midnight and the exact products cost a few dollars more or sometimes even double the price than what they sell at Whole Foods. As a customer, you're absolutely getting ripped off.

Produce is very hit or miss quality wise and can be very expensive ($1 per small pepper the size of a jalapeño) Star Market apparently has a policy that if you are under 25 and don't have a Massachusetts driver's license, you can't buy alcohol because they don't trust their employees to properly identify fake IDs... ok fine. I went with my boyfriend (who is 26, I am 24) and they still would not allow us to purchase alcohol even though he could have if he was alone, because I was there and had an out of state license. I told the cashier that I'm in the military- therefore will never have an in state license and he replied that if he was my boss, he wouldn't allow women in the military to drink. WOW. The manager on duty deescalated the situation a little and told me they would accept my military ID if I bring it with me in the future. Overall- weird and slightly upsetting experience. If I was Star Market, I would do what every other store in the area does for alcohol purchases- scan the ID and if necessary ask for a credit card to ensure the name is the same.
