I also got the same “NO” that another reviewer mentioned when calling to ask if they offer cashier’s checks to people who don’t bank with them. The tone was not very professional or like someone who worked in customer service.

This review is about MIT FCU in general.Took out some money from my HELOC. Called and asked for monthly estimate payment. No one could give me an answer. As for their whole online and app set up, money is easy to transfer in but will not be convenient to transfer out. Very efficient at funneling money in but tough to take out.Rate I got was average. Overall convenient factor is definitely a 2 star.

Being a cashless facility, this bank doesn't offer quarters. They also raised the overdraft fee during the pandemic, and charge random junk fees like $5 for an "address discrepancy" which they didn't explain and doesn't make sense to me.Their staff is poorly trained. I went in asking for a bank letter verifying my account, and they didn't know what that was and issued me a welcome letter instead for a nearly 10 year old account, which didn't have the required information on it.The bank card or credit card is not a viable spending option outside of Boston. After submitting a detailed travel plan before a trip, my card was still frozen on the last day because I got into Boston at midnight and ended up being stranded in the airport parking lot unable to pay parking for my car and go home. There is no flexibility whatsoever. This is one of countless stories about my card being frozen for any tiny reason and being left without a working card. I've also had my card frozen over random purchases that I didn't make very often, but my card would be declined and I'd have to call my bank over very small things.Security at this bank is bad, as the account numbers are very short. They also can't take wire transfers directly, and there's a different process than usual which can make getting paid more complicated.

I suffered through a fraud transaction over venmo and the staff was nice enough to guide through the process of reporting the transaction and refunding the money back into my bank account. I thank them for their good service

Disaster service. Closed my account to move overseas after studying at MIT and they would only offer a cashier’s check for the remaining balance. Surprise, the check did not go through as they wouldn’t verify it. I also asked for a written confirmation that my US account was closed and got a a rude ‘No’. Stay away from this bank.

I needed an account for my hobby income and decided to give this outfit a try by opening a savings account. Due to COVID I did not have any hobby income for couple years, and they changed the status of the account to inactive without telling me and started charging an inactivity fee every month Only after 6 months did they send a statement and I found out. Of course all they would have had to have done is send an email or letter to let me know (the inactivity fee would have paid for the cost of the letter), but no, they said I should have read the fine print, they don't send notices. So I complained to BBB to get the fees refunded and MITFCU didn't even respond the complaint. It illustrates why this outfit has to spend so much on advertising: if you decide to do business with them and they decide you aren't the kind of customer they want, then they treat you like dirt.

I tried to close an account there after they had just charged me an inactivity fee out of the blue. Additionally I had sent $1 bill a couple of years ago to prevent this, and they never posted it, claiming COVID mail problems. They would not review that mistake either. The representative sent me $2 less than the small amount that was left in the account. They only offered the money after I had sent a screen shot showing the balance on my last statement. TOO much work to get my $7 back! I know this is small potatoes, but is this the way a bank should operate? The credit union never explained why the apparent error had occurred.
