I love this shop!! It is my go-to place for gifts for myself & others.
It is filled with all sorts of carefully curated delights & treasures!
Unique, hand crafted jewelry, pillows & throws, gloves & scarves, hats & socks, handbags, pottery…always full of surprises!
Just a joy.
The owner & staff are engaging & knowledgeable.
Sometimes I just go there just to chat with them…...
....…but, rarely do I leave empty handed…....

Total gem! This store features handmade, high quality, and unique jewelry, accessories, and home goods in a warm and welcoming environment. The displays are a work of art and the items they sell are works of art! The staff are always friendly and always very helpful. Highly recommend!!!!

MOTTO, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways. For the jewelry, the scarves, the pottery, the John Derian pieces, for gifts for all occasions, the candles, the Jack Gomme bags—I could go on & on. I have relied on MDF/Motto since the 1980s for great style from fabulous artisans. And the staff—well , there just aren’t any better, more friendly, Knowledgeable, helpful, fun staff anywhere to be found. Seriously, sometimes when I’m kinda blue or when I just need somewhere to feel happy, I’ll just stroll over to Motto & indulge in the great energy & conversation in the shop. I hope they never leave Harvard Sq—I can tell you that! They give character to the place that barely exists anymore (except for the Brattle Cinema & Harvard Bookstore & a few other random spots in the square. Thank you, Motto, for being you! ❤️

Motto specializes in curated, one-of-a-kind treasures you didn't know you needed but quickly decide you do. The space is thoughtfully arranged giving the store an inviting style where you'll want to linger. Their rotating selection of artisan jewelry, scarves, home decor, games, cards, and more means there's surely something new to discover. The staff is very helpful and is always available to answer questions or offer suggestions.
Motto is truly a destination worth visiting, often if possible.

An incredibly creative team of people who have put together an eclectic, high end (yet reasonably priced) assortment of goods that please the eye, intrigue the mind, and pull on the heart. The attention to detail and style is seen in the inventory and within the relationship to those who are helping you in the store. To wrap goods upon request with such grace and ability simply speaks to the unique place you've entered into when you start stopping by at Motto.

So, I've heard a lot about Motto and finally got to visit the store today! I totally loved the unique and diverse mix of products. Honestly, I came in to buy a gift for my best friend and ended up buying myself something too! The sales associate asked if I needed help, but what I appreciated most was being given the space to discover on my own. I am an Artist and really love the hand-crafted vibe that made my purchases special.

This is the most beautifully curated boutique. I loved the focus on small brands and artists. I bought one item in person and after I returned home to another state, I regretted not having bought another item. I called the store and MK was very helpful in finding the item and shipping it to me. I wish I could shop there regularly!

This is the BEST place to shop for gifts!! You can find something for anyone here - beautiful tea towels, matches, mugs, cards, art pieces, puzzles, etc. I always find some treasure here. The staff are kind and knowledgable. This is a must-go in Harvard square!

While it’s new location is off the beaten path of Harvard Square (corner of 26 Church Street & Palmer), it’s not to be missed. Helpful customer service with a dash of conversation (and directions & suggestions) will add to a unique experience while browsing for a gift for yourself or others. Motto is a very unique shop. Almost everything it carries is by a special designer - ceramics (much is Japanese), jewelry, scarves, leather goods, frames, candle sticks, prints, and much more. Everything is gorgeous, unique, very well made. It is a delight to visit the store.
