This is a rare store. Many quality pieces that drape beautifully. Things you can’t find anywhere else. I very much enjoyed the attention Tess gave me. She knows what she is doing, and pulled out pieces that were both a perfect fit and a match to my personality. Most salespeople just want you to spend money and will flatter you whether the clothes are right or not. I found the honesty and care refreshing. It saved me time and buyer’s remorse. I am choosy about the style, craft and drape of my purchases, and I know I will be back.

I have been shopping at Tess’s stores (mostly the one that was in Newton) for over 20 years. I am the type of person who usually doesn’t want any help. However Tess was the most helpful shop owner I have ever met. I would tell her I was coming from NY and she would have all these beautiful clothes ready for me to try on. I also shopped the sale rack and got amazing bargains, but I was not sorry to spend full price on things that I knew looked good on me and were classics. I still have many of the things I bought from her years ago and still wear them.

Was looking for a couple cute dresses for work when I came across this store in Harvard Square. Tess showed me this adorable corduroy dress and I bought it- she was so helpful and insightful about sizing and materials. It's refreshing to go in somewhere these days looking for clothes and to be helped in such a hands-on way!

Stopped in today for the first time, it is expensive but not out of my budget and I could tell the clothes were nice quality and my style. However, after a few minutes of rudeness the woman there told me I would have to buy a size up of the dress I was looking at that was junior sizing, and proceeded to say “so you would be an extra large”. I wear a size 4. I have never owned a piece of large or extra large clothing in my life. I will not give her any of my money despite having liked items in the store. You can’t go around making unfounded comments on people’s size. Horrible woman

I have been shopping at Tess for 25 years. Tess is Tess. She is on the phone. She will steer you away from clothes that won’t work. She will also pull gorgeous clothes from the racks. Yes. There are no bargains. But I have pieces in my wardrobe that I still have wear 20 years later. Tess is a great buyer. She knows beautiful clothes. She has interesting fabulous taste. She is a personality but I can assure that under the gruff exterior is a very good person. Tess is not for everyone. When I go in I will browse the clothes and pull out things that interest me and then Tess will sort out the best pieces to try on. It’s not a store for window shopping. When I shop there I spend an hour or more. I have beautiful clothes that Tess helped me choose.

Incredibly rude person working here. I have plenty of money to spend and love clothes just like these. I am on the larger size, but many of these clothes are meant for my size and would have fit me just fine. She asked me if I was looking for dresses and I said always. She went over to a shapeless caftan and said this would look really good on you, all our other dresses are… small. As much as I would have loved to own many of the pieces in here I would never give this rude woman my money. Many of the items here are from brands I own and fit into just fine. Don’t make assumptions and speak this way to people. Also there’s this thing where people buy things called gifts that may be for someone else too?

When you walk into Tess it helps to know that the owner can seem very grumpy, but has beautiful grown up clothes that you won't find anywhere else around here and great sense of what will look good on you. I was scared of it for years, but eventually walked in and went straight for the sale rack and she kept bringing me clothes I might like. Prices are all over the map. Lots of amazing full priced items ($600 territory) and a sale rack that ends up being roughly like Gap prices.

I would like to thank the sales help at Tess for making sure we never set foot in the store again. There insulting and derogatory comment to my wife was a perfect example of why some people should not be in a customer facing business.

The woman behind the desk was rude and on the phone. We had to speak loudly so she can finally answer. The back door exit was blocked by storage of boxes which is a fire hazard. Bracelets were overpriced and cost $170. The only thing is that the clothing looked pretty. Avoid this place if you can. Will never be back.

I had a lovely visit at Tess! The owner was there and was charming and helpful and efficient. In fact I bought more than I intended because the products were great and Tess was very encouraging. Bought lots of presents and love what I bought!

Tess sells truly beautiful garments, and has an interesting range of styles too. I love the textures of the pieces in the store as well. I've only had great experiences shopping here even when I didn't buy anything.

Prefacing this review by saying that I very rarely leave a negative review but the experience I had at this store compelled me to spread the word. While shopping in Cambridge Square I stopped into Tess. Immediately I felt a dark negative vibe. I continued to look at the clothing without so much as a peep of greeting from the this sour woman who gave me a side eye glare. As I was looking at some sweaters hanging on a rack in the back, she growled, “Those are up front.” I did not realize she was talking to me until I heard her repeat the negative phrase in a deeper growl. I looked up to have my eyes met by her scowling face. What?! There is clothing on a rack in a store. Customers should feel welcome to look at them even if they are in another part of the store. How about a “Can I help you find a size?” How is a store like this still in business. Close and make way for a nice boutique that actually wants to sell clothing to willing customers. Avoid this store unless you want to have negative energy and buy overpriced basic clothing in a dark unhappy place.
