I had such a wonderful stay at The Richard in Edgartown! From the moment I arrived, the staff’s friendliness made me feel so welcome. The inn has a cozy, inviting atmosphere that feels both stylish and comfortable. One of my favorite touches was the fresh baked goods offered throughout the day—the sweet potato scones were absolutely amazing!
The location is also perfect—right in downtown Edgartown with shops and restaurants just steps away, and less than a three-minute walk to the shuttle that takes you directly to Oak Bluffs. It made exploring the island so easy and stress-free.
If you’re looking for a warm, charming place to stay with thoughtful details and a truly convenient location, The Richard is a fantastic choice. I can’t wait to return!

The breakfast is amazing, not to mention the afternoon warm & truly delicious cookies. The flowers, sitting area & fire are priceless. The location is amazing - we originally wanted to be closer to the water, but I’m so glad we chose the Richard, because it is very handy for the buses & also shopping, restaurants, etc. The staff is wonderful, helpful, warm but professional. We love this place so much.

Have you ever asked for a picture with your hotel host so that you could remember your wonderful time with them? Yeah, me neither. That is, until we stayed here, and we experienced the kind, warm, and world-class hospitality of Ellen. When we arrived, she immediately made us feel welcomed. She ensured that we had a good plan for our visit (she has lived there for many years, and knows everything). But there were so many little things that were above and beyond. A kind note in our room. The way that she frequently made sure we had everything we needed (even when we weren’t at the hotel). The way that she got excited with us about our plans. The fact that she meticulously tested recipes for the breakfast service so that everything was the best that it could be (she even made an experimental jam for all of us one morning). And the way that she just made everything better with her presence. Ellen is a Martha’s Vineyard treasure and should be protected at all cost!
Oh yeah, and the hotel was wonderful, it’s perfectly situated to avoid the downtown, but is only a (very) short walk away from everything, and the courtyard was a wonderful place to relax.

Such a cute boutique hotel! Kate was very friendly, helpful and accommodating. I got an early check-in, and was welcomed to hang out in their courtyard post checkout.
P.S.: Their homemade cookies are the best!

Would highly recommend 'The Richard' for a family stay. Very beautifully maintained property with excellent service!!! Rooms are updated, and clean, with all the necessary amenities.

My fiancé and I had to stay on the island and we were looking for a hotel where we can stay 1 night . This hotel looked modern and nice so we went there to check it out . Well, very very old lady at the front desk was not very friendly once we walked in , she said she will give us the rate which is more then on booking and also suggested us to “ go and find “ something else . Something cheaper . We refused and started to book on booking.com , then she said she will match the rate . Unfortunately, our bank declined the card due to fraud, we did not understand what is going on we realized it later when we got sms and called chase . Anyway, you will not believe , this mean and miserable old lady said that since our card is declined we have to leave ! Can you believe it ? I am an executive manager and my fiancé is successful business owner we were kicked out like some trash ! I told her what is going? And it’s just you here no managers and it’s not fair and she said it’s a rule “ please leave “. So , we left . We found super nice place 3 min from this mean lady , called Ashley Inn. The owner was a host and was super nice man . He showed us around and we felt so comfortable and taking care of. Guys , stay in Ashley’s super super nice and they have a bath tub ! This mean lady has to be fired , she obviously hates people so she should stay at her house with caregiver and watch Netflix. She obviously does not know what does it mean HOSPITALITY. This is all about people and the formula is greed , meet , and provide care . You missed this formula!

Staff went above and beyond to make us feel comfortable. Room was ready early. Chocolate chip cookies were the best! Loved having them to enjoy with our nightly tea by the fire pit. Perfect location to take the bus from church street to the other parts of the island.

WOW! What an amazing, beautiful hotel with amazing staff. We were wowed by it as soon as we pulled up and walked through the gardens, such a beautiful building. We were greeting by the loveliest lady, Katey, who made our stay extra special and was amazing throughout. She was so nice and friendly and couldn't do enough for you, it was like staying at a friends house! The room was beautiful and spacious with an amazing walk in closet. The little breakfast buffet was great with good vegan options. Fantastic location. We came all the way from the UK to celebrate my partners 50th birthday here and our stay was super special. It's well worth the luxury price. Just everything about our stay here was amazing and perfect, we couldn't have asked for more, especially Katey who was just wonderful!

Located in the heart of Edgartown, this hotel is fabulous!! We stayed in the 2 bedroom suite. It is the only room on the top floor. It is spacious and spotless. The bedrooms are separated by a cute living area with comfortable furniture, mini fridge, TV, and even a wireless speaker for music! The breakfast that is served each morning is absolutely PERFECT with delicious, healthy, locally sourced items. During the day, warm cookies are provided for guests. If it’s raining, you will find a basket of ponchos waiting at the front desk. When the sun is shining, beach chairs and beach towels are within arm’s reach and a beautiful, noncrowded beach is within walking distance. We cannot say enough about the service at this hotel. Ellen checked us in and gave us some fabulous recommendations for dining and exploring. Katie is someone that you will never forget. She is absolutely precious and is willing to go above and beyond to make your stay just PERFECT. Thank you all for making our short stay in Edgartown super special!!

Trip was fantastic. Room was clean. Breakfast provided a variety of healthy choices. Staff were excellent. I emailed staff regarding parking on the property they get back to me prior to my arrival to inform me that I could park on the property and actually had a space waiting for me. I have nothing negative to say about this trip. I’m looking forward to going back.
