We were walking, looking for a jewelry store because I needed a ring size for a state championship baseball ring that I would like to get through the school. When I walked in the store, I had no intention of buying anything. I just wanted to get my ring size. I asked the kind owner at the store, and sure enough she offered to size my finger. “If your Nantucket visit is so short that you can only visit one shop, make it this one. It's just...magical, unlike any other. A truly remarkable range of wares on offer, belts, shoes, leather briefcases, handbags, and messenger bags, hats of all sorts, and of course the scrimshaw, probably the best selection in all of New England. Atmosphere is so quintessentially Nantucket, specifically the off-season vibe of autumn and winter, especially when the fireplace is lit. So by all means check it out, still owned by the Masters family who founded it ~half a century ago, and managed by a woman who's a direct patrilineal descendant of Tristram Coffin, the town's founder.”
