Salem Maritime National Historic Site is a fascinating destination that offers visitors a rich glimpse into the maritime history of Salem, a charming New England town. The site features well-preserved historic buildings and a beautiful waterfront that provides a peaceful and picturesque setting. Visitors can enjoy easy, flat walks along the harbor, making it accessible for strollers and all ages. A highlight is the Friendship, a replica of a 1797 East Indiaman, which visitors can step aboard to experience the maritime spirit firsthand. The site is overseen by the National Parks Service and is known for being the first national historic site in the US, established in 1938. People often find the area captivating, especially during special events like Halloween weekends, when the town is lively, and the harbor is active. While the lighthouse offers stunning views, the inside is not accessible for climbing, but the surrounding views are peaceful and beautiful. Overall, Salem Maritime National Historic Site is a great place to explore history, enjoy scenic walks, and experience the unique maritime culture of Salem.

Lived here for 25 years, kind of take it for granted as it is a beautiful spot with lots of history. Easy walk out to the lighthouse. Lots of good food nearby. The month of October is basically Disney here so I suggest coming in the summer or November

Had a good time here loved the historical places. Everything was within walking distance from where we parked there. Would recommend visiting.

Great place to visit when you’re in town! The stroll to the lighthouse wasn’t to far and is nice and flat for strollers etc. The lighthouse itself was pretty underwhelming as you couldn’t walk to the top of this one. The views are amazing though for a nice peaceful trip.
