“Well, this is a review I never thought I’d have to write. About a month ago, I travelled from NH to the Cape, like we do every summer. The whole family was there, including all the cats – my two, my sister’s and my brother’s. The first night everything was completely normal. My 5 year old black cat, Kai, was being his typical black cat self – chasing his brother, eating his cousin’s food (that he knows he isn’t supposed to eat) and generally being the mischievous, lovable little troublemaker that he’s always been. I went to bed so content that night, with both cats sleeping on me.

The next morning, my sister and I woke from a dead sleep to this awful coughing sound. It was Kai. He threw up, had phlegm coming out of his mouth, and then just slowly collapsed onto his side. It looked like he was going to stop breathing. There was immediate panic and confusion. Did he eat something? Is his airway blocked? I googled emergency vet close to me and the first thing that popped up was Hyannis. I called in a full panic, gave a rushed explanation and basically blurted out that I think he’s going to die and am coming NOW. The woman on the phone told me to hold on for just a minute because she needed to make a call. She asked me to stay on the line and said she'd be right back. I was probably on hold for 30 seconds and she came back and told me to go to the vet in Dennis, which was only 5 minutes away. (Sidenote: We gotta shorten that street name because Theophilus F Smith Rd is hard enough to spell when you aren’t in one of the most panicked, stressful situations of your life!!)

Thank God they re-directed me to the Dennis location because I don’t think he would have made it all the way to Hyannis. Those were the longest, most terrifying 5 minutes of my life. When I pulled in the parking lot, there were no spots, so I pulled right up to the entrance. Someone immediately came running out, scooped up Kai from my backseat, and ran him back inside.

Shortly after, a vet came in to talk to us. She said that he was on oxygen and breathing, but still in distress. She also said that he was showing signs of congestive heart failure. To be perfectly honest, the first thought that popped into my head was something along the lines of, “Is she high?” He’s 5. He’s the most active, happy, healthy cat you’ve ever met. He’s never had any health concerns. That cannot be it. I insisted that I thought he had eaten something. That night he was transferred to their sister location in Buzzards Bay. He stayed on oxygen and was treated for both CHF and atypical pneumonia (while rare, they couldn’t rule it out completely based on his scans). He ended up in the ICU for 4 days, and I was able to bring him home (stable but traumatized) with a recommendation to see a cardiologist ASAP.

Unfortunately, the cardiologist confirmed the diagnosis of CHF and gave him 12-18 months. It hurts to write that, and I’m still coming to terms with the fact that we won’t be together for another 10 years. But if it wasn’t for the amazing group of people at the Dennis and Buzzards Bay Cape Cod Vet Specialists, I would have already lost him. They saved his life and I consider every extra day I have with him a blessing.”

“Both my cat Brady and I loved our visit to VACC! This facility is lovely and very, clean. There was none of the usual vet visit smell, either in the lobby and waiting area or in the exam room. And I have a very sensitive sense of smell. And they have a separate waiting area for cats with a lovely aquarium. And my Brady was so at ease with the catwalks and shelves in the exam room for him to explore. Completely distracted him. He’s a new rescue and everything makes him a little nervous. But he was very relaxed and the tech and Dr Flanagan were amazing with him! Everyone was friendly and helpful. We both highly recommend Veterinary Associates of Cape Cod.”

“I brought my dog Rosie to VCA Hyannis to get a second opinion about a fractured tooth. I went to a vet in Sandwich... but did not feel that the exam was comprehensive, nor did I get the affirmative answers that Rosie deserves... It was just... oh she should go see a dentist & there's not much we can do. VCA was the exact opposite experience. Dr. Lane is a great listener, not rushed, compassionate, kind and conservative with her evaluation and recommendations for care. What a fantastic experience - from the front desk staff, to Dr. Lane's assistant to everything! We are so very fortunate to have seen Dr. Lane & are very appreciative.”

“Dr. Nancy Weintraub is so great, very comprehensive and thorough and compassionate in her assessment and diagnosis and recommendations. She does a full physical exam as well as she has decades of experience dealing with complex medical issues. “Friendly and wonderful staff. They have a nice property that wildlife enjoy, and they do tours. During peak baby wildlife season, they still had room for the orphans that I found, but do call ahead to make sure.

Give them a donation if you can because most of the animals are unable to pay for medical services. The crows have tried to repay them with various shiny objects.”

“I almost dont want tp write this review as it can be tricky to get in to see Dr Neece as it is. She and her staff obviously care about your animals almost as much as you do, they create a comfortable environment for owner and pet alike while giving the best care.”

“We were visiting on the Cape for a week and needed to be seen on short notice. VCA Hyannis fit us in next day, and we had a wonderful experience. Everyone from the front desk receptionists to the nurses and technicians and veterinarians went above and beyond to make us feel welcomed and cared for.Our exam with Dr. Zelman was very thorough, follow-up was great, and you could feel every person in the practice trying to deliver the best possible care for patients and owners. We also got to meet a very sweet puppy lab (what's up Benny!)There's also just great vibes here, and everyone clearly loves their jobs. Especially when we walked in as a new patient after the July 4th Holiday. The intake was fast, and as soon as the front desk realized we were there for a potentially urgent issue, they moved very quickly to get us seen. It really made a difference for us. We highly recommend them and will return if we ever need care on the Cape again. Thanks for a great visit!”

“I brought my newly adopted cat to VCA as they were her original vet with her previous owner. My experience was extremely positive. There was no wait and everyone was so professional. Dr. Weintrob was wonderful. I have not been to a vet on Cape in years as I use a mobile vet for my other house cat. All around a positive. I must add I take my partners cat to her vet in Fairhaven (and before, New Bedford) and labwork is a 1.3 of the price. I was admittedly shocked to pay 478.00 for an exam and bloodwork.”
