NOT A VETERAN FRIEND BANK......On January 8, 2024 approximately 4:05 pm, we stopped at Macatawa Bank on 520 Baldwin Street in Jenison, MI to use their ATM. We were low on fuel, no cash, no credit card and 75 miles from home. The ATM machine hung up and then a message popped up stating that my card was not going to be returned due to security reasons. Went inside to retrieve my card, and the teller said they were not able to get my USAA debit card returned to me because "it was not a Macatawa Bank card". The teller apologized, again restating that she would be more than willing to help me retrieve my card if it was "their card" and I would have to "contact USAA and request a new card with them". Not one staff member moved or even looked in my direction, until some corn-fed employee popped up out of her chair, looked out the window and quickly picked up the phone when she observed my taking the picture in this post. Luckily, I told a local next door had transpired, gave us some money for gas and thanks for your service as he noticed my Navy hat. We were able to get home safely without having to call USAA roadside assistance for a "ran out of fuel" request. I wish I remembered the name of the local and grateful for his selflessness and assisting this retired Navy veteran.
