Westwood Jackson Mall is a nice, clean mall located in Jackson, Michigan, serving a large surrounding area. Its indoor lighting and ambience are fantastic, and it features a beloved hippo statue that has been a favorite for kids to play on for over thirty years. The mall includes a handful of stores, such as a Hot Topic and an Applebee’s, which remains a liked spot despite hit-or-miss quality in recent years. However, the mall has been in a downward spiral, with many noting its sorrowful and desolate atmosphere due to numerous empty storefronts. Major closures over recent years have included Younkers, AT&T, Foot Locker, Kay Jewelers, Bath & Body Works, and Game Stop, leaving pits of empty stores. While events like a holiday craft fair add reasons to shop and people enjoy the additional offerings, the overall lack of consumer goods is apparent. Observers predict that without action, the mall’s days are numbered, with a possibility of closure before the 2030s. Despite this, it remains a good mall for a walk to see the changes, holding a place in the community's history.
