A great stay in Grand Marais Minnesota. Continental Breakfast, pool, hot tub and sauna. We never used these so I can’t give a review on them. Lots of parking and great location. Very clean and well taken care of….…. the view from this room was magnificent and amazing to wake up and look out and see the lake. I found it was expensive nightly rate for a basic hotel. It was $179 a night but that was US. Converting to CAN just boggled my mind. The front desk people were very nice and enjoyed talking to them. The breakfast was really good too.Nearby activities: Very close to restaurants and things in town. Good parking and secure area.

BEWARE fellow CANADIANS! If you use your Canadian Credit Card to pay for your room and they make a mistake and over charge than correct it, the exchange rate difference you are responsible for! Also the room did not smell fresh. More of a moldy smell.

We were afraid we wouldn’t find a place to stay on the North Shore but were able to find this hotel on a Friday night. Great beds! Ok breakfast but they served The World’s Best Donuts which were delicious. Great coffee too. We didn’t have a chance to use the pool as it was late when we arrived but it looked nice. We could look out our window at the lake which was great.

Centrally located hotel in Grand Marais. Right on main highway. Could walk to harbor and My Sisters place for dinner. Air worked well. Ice machine on same floor. Continental breakfast in morning. Staff friendly and knowledgeable regarding dining options and sites to visit.

Every time we come to grand marais we stay here.Pros--cheapest hotel in the area-clean rooms-smart tvs, air conditioning, fridges-comfy beds- quiet- a quick walk to everything in the area-pool and spa-we were lucky to have our room facing the water too which was a nice view-nice staffThe only con I can think of is that the breakfast in the morning isn't the greatest

I would like to post a positive review. So I am going to start out with the positive which was we have a beautiful view. The evening staff Angie was delightful and friendly and kind, which took away from the negative aspects of this place a bit. No one bothered to let us know that, the lodge was under construction. Not only under construction, but on the roof over our room and below her room. They arrived at 7:30 and stayed until 7:30 PM. Pounding yelling music, etc. We were coming up here to get away from the city, and all the noise . The rooms were nice and clean. The area of course is wonderful. I’m sure now that they will have all these updates at the cost of the guest staying here, that In the future I may even recommend this place, but only if they keep it at the same price what’s the chances are they will not. The owner Mark lives in the cities. That is where we came from to get away and go to the quiet. Shame on you, MARK! We asked for accommodation in price and were given 20% off. It doesn’t make up for the entire time that went in our room to relax we had to listen to pounding, drilling,, and yelling and music.

Here are the pictures outside our window at our hotel room at the Aspen Lodge. We were never informed of construction going on. The pounding was so horrendous that my wife had a migraine from it. We had no place to go to relax. If there are positive things, I will say the Wi-Fi worked. The view was beautiful but not from my room. The staff were nice but that isn’t going to always do it. The ice machine was broken but the rooms were clean. The water was hot. The pool and hot tub were amazing. The only thing that was amazing. A year from now. This place will be absolutely beautiful on the outside, but it was at the price of the guests who had to stay through it or never for warrant. We plan to pursue this legally to the owner, and/or the general manager of this property. Be aware!

Pros and cons, but mostly cons....Facts:Pros: desk staff very pleasantContinental breakfast decentShower hotCons:for179$ i expected a clean room. The shower had multiple hair blobs on the walls. I doubt it was cleaned. The bed covering also had avariety of hairs ofdifferent colors and types.i wonder when it was last washed.I opened the bed covers to find a dead bug on the sheet and was awakened by a small bug walking on me at night. I did get a bite on my arm.didnt id the bug,but it was the right size for a bed bugScreen on window was torm vertically like someone had tried to get inA hole behind bathroom door exposed rotting wood and many bugs.Photos below

this was absolutely the worst experience ever and staying at a hotel over 71 years of life! Construction was going on, and they failed to tell us when we booked this room in advance. I will add pictures of what we saw out our window. We left the Minneapolis area to find some peace and quiet and that is not what we had here in this room at the Aspen Lodge. we did not have a choice to wait at 7:45 in the morning because it was already predetermined by all the workers call which show up and start pounding yelling and playing their music loudly. Right outside our window! We asked for compensation, and we were not heard. The general manager, Mark Sandbo has been contacted many times, and he is not responding. we just wanna be compensated for the inconvenience of traveling 12 hours round-trip for no peace and quiet!

I have to say this was one of the worst experiences of my 71 years of life staying at a hotel! There was construction going on, and we were not pre-warned. But, the construction was right outside her window with workers heads been level with our windows. The pounding they yelling to each other in the loud music gave us no peace and quiet if we went back to our room! We have asked for compensation from that general manager named Mark Sandbo and he has not responded after several requests. As everyone knows takes time and energy searching for a place to stay taking the time away from whatever is going on at home to make these trips. Not to mention six hours one-way driving. I am very very disgusted at the audacity to book these rooms while it’s under construction. The other part of it was you had one door that you could enter this property on. All the other doors were blocked off by construction workers and equipment. We were told one door and that was it. I am hoping eventually the general manager, and the owner will see these reviews and respond.

Not a bad place for a vacation. Very quiet, and low key. Kind of a middle of the range, but not bad.

The staff was really friendly and offered some good suggestions about activities in the area. The room was spacious and honestly one of cleanest I’ve stayed in at a hotel. The view of the lake was nice. If you’re looking for a place to stay in Grand Marais I’d definitely recommend it.

Nice location in Grand Marais and close to downtown. Overall the hotel is old and dated. Rooms are fine. Breakfast operation is absurd, you tell the front desk what you want and they bring it out to you. Menu is average at best. Staff is helpful.
