Loon Lake Lodge offers a serene and picturesque winter retreat in the heart of the Boundary Waters Canoe Area (BWCA). The Shack, the only cabin open during the winter, provides a cozy and well-appointed accommodation with trail access right outside the door. Guests can enjoy excellent (at times icy) hikes, cross-country skiing, and the stunning night skies just outside the cabin. The cabin is clean, comfortable, and equipped with all the necessary amenities for a wonderful getaway. Hosts Andrea and Derek are described as kind, quick to respond, and extremely helpful, ensuring a pleasant and memorable experience for their guests. The lodge keeps only one cabin open for the winter, creating a private and exclusive atmosphere, almost like having the entire lake to yourself. In the warmer months, guests can explore the Gitchi-Gami trail, go biking, fishing, and kayaking, and indulge in the hosts' delectable take-and-bake pizzas and homemade ice cream sandwiches. Overall, Loon Lake Lodge is praised as a fantastic destination for a winter retreat or a year-round vacation, offering a serene and picturesque setting, exceptional hosts, and a wide range of outdoor activities and amenities.
The Hofeldt’s provided us with an excellent stay. They were always available to share information on how to best experience Loon Lake and the surrounding area. Rental fishing boats were top notch!
