Avoid iStorage!!!\\nMy experience at the 4325 Hiawatha location, and with the company in general, has been terrible. The building reeks of mildew, urine, and stale cigarettes, and it is neither safe nor secure. On multiple occasions there, I was approached by a woman (who I think lived inside the building) offering to sell me pills.\\nIn August 2023 I was in the process of moving and needed to access my rented unit, but over multiple days was not allowed. I found out later that the building (including my unit) had been broken into, and the company was doing damage control. I spent most of a day on the phone with various company representatives before I was allowed to speak with the Area Manager, who told me they would refund my rent and allow me to vacate the unit.\\nIn November 2023 I realized that rather than issue a refund, iStorage was continuing to charge me monthly rent even though I vacated 3 months prior. I called the number for the 4325 Hiawatha location several times, and received only a \\\"voicemail not set up yet\\\" message. I called the general Customer Service number, and after speaking with several representatives I was told the Area Manager would call me within 3 days, and that they would issue a refund request. They also told me the refund would take 6 to 8 weeks per their corporate policy. I did not sign up for their \\\"corporate policy\\\" when they illegitimately charged me.\\nIt would not be acceptable if someone took money from you without your consent, and then told you they would give it back in 2 months, per their \\\"corporate policy.\\\" Likewise, it is unacceptable for iStorage to do the same.\\nMy recommendation based on my experience is to avoid iStorage.

It looks like my original review was deleted... so, let's try this again. This company DESERVES the one star reviews. What they did in August is actually criminal.Update (09/07/23): still no contact from managementLong story short, I had to move in August and I was prepaid until August 22nd with NO intention of renewing (not because the place was closed, but because I was moving to another city and no longer needed the old storage unit). I had rented a uhaul and had dropped by on 08/02/23 only to be met with a security guard who turned us away.We dropped by again several more times in August to clear out our unit, with the final attempt being August 20th. They were still blocking entry, and the building had completely shut down their phonelines. At this point, the company had not sent out any memos and we couldn't reach them either. We tried emailing customer service and we still have not received any response to any of our emails. We also tried calling customer service and they gave us a ticket number and told us a regional manager would get back to us in 72 hours, but it's been weeks and still no response. Central customer service won't do anything and always says the same thing... "we'll update the ticket so an area manager will call you back"... well... I'm still waiting lol.FINALLY, after weeks of hearing nothing from the storage facility, they sent out a general email memo that people could make a one hour appointment with the nearby istorage to be escorted into the facility. Ok, that's great... except... now I'm being barred from getting my things because of non-payment.I had zero intention of having the storage unit past August, so why should I be responsible for ANOTHER month of rent, and late fees when it's the company's fault for locking everyone out and then disappearing off the grid? In addition, I had several uhauls already rented in August for my move, and now I have to rent ANOTHER uhaul and spend additional money I don't really have to spend because I couldn't access my belongings when I actually was paid up. I have all of my uhaul rental agreements, plus my new storage agreement for the place much closer to my new home. I can absolutely prove I was trying to get my things. At this point, the company illegally held my belongings hostage and now are demanding money because of it. Absurd.

**UPDATE (8/25/23) after briefly reopening -- without notifying anyone -- they are closed AGAIN and you can only get in by appointment. I have attached a picture of what the exit door looks like; that ought to tell you everything you need to know. Get your stuff out of there.(8-4-23) I went there yesterday to get things from my unit and it was closed with a security guard sitting in a car blocking the entry door. No reason given, no updates from staff and no response to my voicemail or email. UNACCEPTABLE.Avoid this place at all costs.

Avoid at all costs. Just pay a few bucks more and go to UHaul or somewhere else. There was trash in my unit upon moving in, and the entire facility was in disrepair (as others have noted). I immediately requested a termination and refund. After emailing, calling, and texting, someone finally replied to say my refund would be processed. Not only was it not processed, but they continued to bill me for future months. It took repeated phone calls and escalations to get someone on the phone, and even still they are resisting giving me a full refund. If corporate is responding to these reviews - you have my contact information and prior complaints, so you know how to address it.

Facility closed for a week now. Unable to get into the building to get my things. The building was full of trash, full of squatters, urine in the hallways. Not to mention, this is the second time this has happened in months. Absolutely no help from the corporate office, in fact they flat out denied my request for contact info for the regional manager. Complaint has been filed with the MN attorney general's office.

Showed up today after driving from out of state to pick up my stuff. A security guard and car had the entrance blocked off.Someone who identified themselves as 'Ben', the regional manager told me "I am not letting you in the building." and that "The building is unsafe." He offered no information as to why, when it would be addressed, or any apology or explanation for the situation, just stared at me. There has been no email or other update to tenants that there was no building access. He did not have a business card and would not give me his last name. Nobody answers the local phone number. I'm contemplating my options and wondering if he really works there and what is going on and whether my property is safe. Contacted the corporate 800 number, they only know the facility is closed but not why.Update from a week later, 8/10:Still no contact from istorage corporate, even though I have been promised a call from the regional manager. And the local number is no longer even taking messages.

I rented a unit to store my car for 6 weeks because I was moving for a new job and taking some time off between. The unit was located inside a large warehouse that was access controlled with pin code entrance and exits. The move in was complicated by finding the unit locked because the local manager was trying to discourage people from sleeping in them. It took 45 minutes but eventually someone did let me in.I left and returned 5 weeks later to find the location had been closed. The pin code door was deactivated, signs were posted that the location was closed and there was no access. There was no phone number or instructions how to access the site or how long it had been closed for.I spent the next day on the phone trying to get access to my vehicle. The national line could only generate a ticket number and promise that someone would call in "72 business hours". They could not connect me to a manager or to anyone local.Only when my sister managed to reach another location in the area (probably because her phone number didn't automatically shunt her to the closed location or the national line like mine did) were we able to find someone to help and they sent security to let me in to retrieve my car. (If I could leave that person a 5-star review I would.)During the process I found out that the location had been closed weeks prior to my return. There had been no notification of any kind and it hadn't stopped them from billing me for my second month in the unit.It was an extremely stressful experience and in the week since then I have still received no communication about or acknowledgement of what happened.

It's a very bad place, our experience with this company has been very very bad. Over a month ago, we purchased a unit that we couldn't use because it was locked. They failed to provide us with one that we could use at any of the three closest stores . after we canceled and received a refund, we were charged over $150 for something we have never used. We weren't given our product, leading me to believe that this isn't a genuine company it's a scam. They take money, demand more, and fail to deliver on their promises. Overall, our experience has been quite disappointing.

This place is disgusting. Homeless wandering throughout the building because one garage door is broken. The whole place smells like urine and trash is everywhere. Worst storage facility I’ve ever visited. Was planning to move in today but my unit was still locked and nobody was in the office to help. Getting a refund and taking my money elsewhere. I’d recommend bringing pepper spray if you go alone

Started trying to rent a unit here online. Insurance is mandatory, and there is no way to provide your own insurance. Tried to contact them to straighten things out, and their phone number doesn't work. Very shady

It’s a storage facility… relatively clean, maintained and well managed. Interior is colder than you would expect.

Building is apparently condemned by the city, there is a sign posted on the entrance with a phone number that doesn't work asking me to set up an appointment to access my stuff. Their link on their website to send them a message doesn't work either. 0/10 avoid this scam.
