Petco
80 25th St SE Suite 200, RochesterThe fish were in great shape, at least betta wise! A lovely gal (I wish I got her name) helped me to entirety.
I had a basic education of proper betta care, and a HUGE fear of my daughter’s birthday fish becoming birthday trauma that same week. She heard those fears, responding in pure reassurance and education much to my appreciation. She helped me pick the tank, helped confirm soaking and rinsing the colored pebbles wouldn’t be an automatic death sentence, and helped me understand despite a tighter budget, if what I had in mind was doable or not like I had hoped.
I love a caring pet store worker, one who shows passion and education and is willing to share that aspect of themselves with others. She helped me choose whether a filter or heater was more imminent for the 24 hour wait (that I questioned if was even okay for the fish out of my pure fears) as well as helping educate me on the tank setup of the water levels! I told her of hard calcium to our well water, and she responded wonderfully to confirm it wouldn’t kill him with the proper cycle and water adjustments added (conditioner I believe) and even taught me the exact drop amount mid-aisle running the math in her head.
I’ve never felt so educated and yet understood in my hopes and goals, while also being told if it’s within reach or not. I expressed a budget, more budget within the few days, and she helped us make it happen! Here I am just about a week later to say he is happy, and absolutely thriving in his heated, and filtered 5.5 gallon tank! We plan to upgrade his size in future, and I think we’ll only ever be headed back there from now on. Maybe I’ll see the gal who helped us on 1/19/26 again, and I can happily report our bettas progress in hopes of learning more. Or perhaps I’ll learn my own to impress her? Either way. If I could compliment her anymore highly? I would. Get that girl the next raise or next position up, clearly she knows what she’s doing and has pure passion (hint hint petco I left the date of shopping on purpose-AFTERNOON TO BE EXACT!! lol)
Honorable mentions as well is the checkout woman from that evening. Her and my daughter had a wonderfully in depth conversation on the movie releases (and varieties) of how to train your dragon, including very happily sharing her favorites of their releases and my daughter comparing them to hers on the ride home. She truly clicked with her, proudly showing her fish and asking her to keep him safe while we shopped. She commented in the car “she kept my fishy right next to her, she really kept him safe when he’s right where she can see” and it made her feel happily comforted. She’s still grasping how delicate they are, and her major fear is him spilling out of his water, starting as soon as she selected him. Her actions alone was enough for my 5 year old to be beyond content knowing he’s safe.
She’s non-stop spoken on this store, and I agree easily saying it’s got the best options of any coming from Iowa area. Unless you want Minneapolis area shopping? They’re your place!

Northern Valley Animal Clinic
3309 Alberta Dr NE, RochesterNorthern Valley Animal Clinic has been an amazing clinic for all of my pets. I've been with them since I got my first pet, and now all 4 of my pets go there. The staff is incredibly friendly and it doesn't take long for them to recognize both you and your pets. That makes me feel that much more comfortable bringing my pets there. All of my pets also aren't scared to go there, even my two cats, they feel comfortable with all the staff. The vets are very knowledgeable and listen to any concerns I have no matter how small they may be. They take every request seriously and explore all options until my pet feels 100% again. I can't recommend them enough! Their extended hours are also an incredible bonus.

VCA Cascade Animal Medical Center & Inn
4020 26th St NW, RochesterWOW! As someone passing through town and dealing with the unfortunate circumstance of needing immediate help for my 5 month old puppy, Dr. Mark Wenner kindly found a way to squeeze us in same day. The facility is clean, the staff are respectful and kind, and overall there is a very calm atmosphere in this clinic. Dr. Mark Wenner was extremely detailed and made me feel seen and heard regarding my puppy’s concerns. He thoroughly checked every part of my puppy and came up with a solid game plan. I never felt like I was asking too many questions. If you are someone who deeply cares about their pet, your furry family member will be taken care of here. It is located in a very safe and well populated area. Absolutely would recommend!

Drift Dough
832 7th St NW, RochesterAdorable bakery that shares a space with the Old Abe restaurant. We tried all the vegan donut flavors (the blueberry and cinnamon sugar were our favorites, but the flavors rotate). All the vegan donuts were cake donuts; I was kind of hoping to try a raised donut but unsure whether that’s just not the focus or if it just wasn’t in the rotation on the day we went. Also ordered a Vietnamese iced coffee which was tasty, and a matcha lemonade which was a bit too bitter and sour for my taste but might just be personal preference. Very colorful & eclectic, plenty of outdoor seating in the back but it was cramped inside when we went on a Saturday morning. Even though it was busy we got our order pretty quickly. There’s not a parking lot but we were able to find parking on the street with relative ease. We will definitely be back to try some more donut flavors!

Snappy Stop
37 9th St SE, RochesterHere’s the deal..
There’s fast food, which nine times out of ten is disappointing at best, there’s chain restaurants.. most of which are in the same category… disappointing
Then there’s independently run establishments that take pride in what they serve. This food comes out fast, fresh, hot, and delicious. Couple that with their extremely fair pricing. I can think of a few burger only joints that can’t compare quality wise, and their prices are almost double now.
I know I’m biased, but I’ve also got a lot to compare it to. This place stands up with the top burger joints I have ever visited. The fries, I don’t know what they do, but they’re incredible.
If you’re ever in the area, and looking for a drive through meal, or a fantastic burger in general swing through here, you will not be dissatisfied.
There’s three restaurants that I don’t skip when I visit Rochester, they’re all right on broadway, and this is the furthest north one. They’re all the best at what they do.
Thanks for delivering awesome food! We share a birth year, and I hope to be able to come here and enjoy your food in another 40 years!!

The Workshop Food Hall & Bar
1232 3rd Ave SE, RochesterLovely food hall with options like burgers, fried chicken, pizza, and Mexican food. I got the walleye tacos which were crispy and flavorful from the chipotle crema and grilled corn, albeit a little room temp. Loved the green salsa which was a mild/medium spice. I love that they have happy hour at the bar from 2-6pm which I took full advantage of. Overall, this would be a great place to visit with large groups since they have plenty of seating. You simply order at the cashier, bring your number to your table, and they will bring out the food directly to you which is not common of food halls.
