Subtext Books is a cozy and personal neighborhood bookstore in the Twin Cities, considered by many to be the best. It is a fun place with lots of charm, described as a lively little escape. The shop offers a great collection of mostly new books, with a nice little used corner, plus fun zines, handmade magnetic bookmarks, and a poetry dispenser. The staff is exceptionally kind, thoughtful, knowledgeable, and delightful, providing fantastic customer service and excellent recommendations. Handwritten notes on the shelves from customers and staff add a personal touch. The store hosts events like author readings and signings. Staff can order books, and while area parking is pay-to-park, it is plentiful on non-sports days.

Love this place! Dan was fantastic helping us figure out a couple books we didn’t actually know the names of. We figured it out together! And he recommended some additional books for us. Will definitely come back here next time we visit St. Paul.
