Special theme but small room, no table, no fridge, no separate microwave ,nice service, full of DVD and children toys , for single people, it’s perfect, but not for family.Actually, a family who wants kids sleep alone ?Two bed room.I hope I can reply the owner’s comments. What I care about is the two beds, and the website only recommends that room, and if you have a suite with two beds, that will be great for me. The owners are very nice, hope I can have a trip there again.

Stayed here only for a night during a trip to Northern MN and highly regret not staying longer. The vibe is more of a family home than a hotel and Jeff and Cyndi make sure to ensure all their guests feel welcome and fully comfortable. Rooms were sparkly clean with nice added touches and themes! If you are a rail aficionado or appreciate a place like home, this Inn is surely the one for you. I will be back for a longer stay in the future!

Such a great stay! We spent a night after touring Bentleyville with our 3 and 5 year old. Although they enjoyed the lights, my 5 year old keeps asking when we can go back to the train hotel! It was clean, comfortable, quiet, and breakfast included a great selection. Added fun touches were the train running up above and Cyndi calling the deer for a visit during breakfast. Not a swanky place with lots of amenities but special touches you won't find elsewhere!

Words can't describe how amazing this place is. ESPECIALLY DURING THE HOLIDAYS. They spend so much time on the decorations and tree. It's a winder wonderland. The owners are the sweetest. The rooms are cute and quaint. If you want all the bells and whistles. This isn't your place. If I could explain it to my friends."It's like when you go to grandma's house and they are sitting playing board games feeling." (PERSONAL)HIGHLY RECOMMEND

Right from the initial greeting this was a comfortable experience. Our hosts could not have been more accommodating, nothing was too much trouble ?Arriving just after all the Christmas decorations were up and it was a fairy land of trains and“Little People “ second visit and I’ll be back!!Rooms: The theme rooms are a nice feature and well done.

We recently stayed 2 nights with our 9 year old grandson. We had the two room full car and thought it was great! The entire hotel is really cool both inside and out! The owners are very friendly and the morning breakfast and giant selection of DVDs and games is a nice touch! Would definitely recommend staying here when visiting the beautiful North Shore!

I visited in September 2023 and I cannot say enough positive things about the Northern Rail traincar inn. This was a charming, well-located, perfectly maintained, and delightful place to stay! I visited with my husband for two nights while we were doing some hiking and sightseeing along the North Shore -- so we were eating breakfast and then out of the hotel for most of the day -- but all the time we spent on this property put a smile on my face. The service was wonderful, both owners were kind and polite and you can tell they really care about the Inn and their guests based on all of the helpful signage, advice for local sights, etc. A particular highlight was the lobby dining/sitting area with board games and coffee/tea/cocoa -- I appreciated that they keep it open 24 hours so guests who want to stay up later can do so without being noisy in their rooms. Excellent touch!Speaking of noise, I was absolutely DELIGHTED to hear rainfall on the boxcar roof all night when we stayed. I usually need to bring a white noise machine with me to hotels to fall asleep and here I instead got to fall asleep to the comforting patter of rain -- this was such a highlight for me, and something unique I couldn't have experienced almost anywhere else. The grounds surrounding the inn are very private and quiet so it really did feel like I was in my own little paradise in the woods.I left on Sunday morning rambling to my husband over and over about how we need to come back soon, and I think the Northern Rail Traincar Inn is going to be our go-to lodging on the north shore for the forseeable future. I cannot think of a single thing I would want to see done differently here -- it is the perfect place to stay and I hope I can come back for many years!Rooms: The room was clean, cozy, and had a well-appointed bathroom. I appreciated the extra touch of a rug to put our hiking shoes on to keep things clean, and I REALLY loved that there was a proper fitted sheet on the bed instead of a tucked-in loose sheet. Random thing to focus on, I know, but it's something I noted. Also, the pillows were quite nice and the mattress itself felt perfectly medium-ish to me.The rooms are in boxcars so they are a titch narrow -- I'd definitely recommend you book the ADA Accessible room if you need space to turn a wheelchair or other assistive device, but there are ramps and other accommodations on the rest of the property to help facilitate that.Nearby activities: The Inn is a tiny short drive away from Two Harbors, so you've got plenty to do there -- as well as all of the amazing options for things to do along the North Shore in general! We in particular enjoyed being literally a minute away from Betty's Pies which made our early arrival easy for that popular spot. In addition, we visited during the Lake Superior 20/20 Art crawl as well as the fall Two Harbors Art Fair so there really was just plenty to do. I could also see us visiting midwinter and doing a little snowshoeing or cozy winter walks just in the immediate area. This inn is perfectly located!Safety: The grounds are remote and off the highway but still within 10 minutes of Two Harbors, so it felt very safe while also being close enough to gas stations and pharmacy, etc. This kind of private lot surrounded by woods is quite safe anyhow given the lack of people around, but I appreciated the other safety considerations the ownership took -- you can learn more about which entrances are locked, etc, once you actually check in.Food & drinks: The breakfast supplied here was perfect! Plenty of offerings in the form of microwaveable pancakes, french toast, bagels to toast, bananas and other fruit, hard boiled eggs, yogurt, and more. I appreciate when breakfast offerings include the high-protein savory component so the hard boiled eggs in particular were a big plus for me. I also love how there's endless coffee, tea, and hot cocoa for those inclined to a hot beverage in the morning. There wasn't any meat on offer when I visited but that's not at all a d

I brought my adult daughter for a three-night getaway. This is the most unique place you'll ever find, and it is so quiet and peaceful. If you're looking for a regular type hotel with swimming pool and all the amenities, keep looking; but if you're looking for a unique, quiet, and family-oriented atmosphere while you explore the gorgeous North Shore, this is the place you want!

The owner was very personable and polite. My husband loves trains, so I surprised him with a stay in the bear-themed boxcar. She joked around with him about making a bed out of grass and being served a can of beans for breakfast. The room was clean and comfortable. The breakfast was conteniental and contained a variety of items.Safety: The office door was locked about 8-10 PM. However, guests were given a key to a door at the other end of the inn, providing them 24-hour access.

cool experience, clean room, soft sheets, nice views. the owners definitely make you feel at home, they had a fire going at night, a closet full of board games and a library of dvds. it’s like staying at your grandparents house, if they lived in a train in the forest.
