“We stayed in the campground. The sites are perfectly maintained. There is plenty of space between them. The staff is extremely helpful. Bathrooms/showers are top notch! We would definitely stay here again! Thank you Big River Resort!”

“Overall, it was a great day. It was a little confusing as when I checked in as I had a young girl who checked me in she did not tell me that there was a gift shop. She didn’t tell me what time breakfast was or where breakfast was. I understand that is a small hotel and you can see that there is a gift shop and you can see where breakfast is, but it would be nice to know where you can browse around to buy things and where you can purchase them where the pool would be I mean I wasn’t using the pool as that wasn’t why I was there, but I had no direction. She also just told me my room was 108 and I was on the first floor and she did not tell me where my room was. Thank God there was only one hall on the first floor so I kind of couldn’t know where it is but other than that, she didn’t tell me no direction I was very unhappy with her.”

“We loved our stay at Hotel De Ville! It’s clear how grateful Noelle is for the opportunity to bring new life to this historic hotel as its new owner. She’s such a free spirit and was incredibly kind, welcoming, and helpful throughout our stay. While the restaurant isn’t operating at full scale just yet, there are plans to open it fully for hotel guests to enjoy. In the meantime, it makes for a great gathering space and lobby. This past weekend, there was live music, a great selection of drinks, and light bites, including flatbreads, some absolutely to-die-for bruschetta, and more! It was so much fun seeing the building come alive with locals and out-of-town guests alike. We stayed in the Art Nouveau room upstairs, which was beautiful and spotless. We especially loved the cozy sitting nooks along both windows. We also had the opportunity to tour most of the other rooms, so there are a few things worth knowing when choosing your room. I believe rooms are typically available on a first-come, first-served basis, though you may be able to request or be assigned a specific room during booking. We booked through the previous owner, Dan, so I’m not sure how that process will work going forward. The Grand Budapest room appears to be the only one without a mini-fridge and coat rack. Some rooms have corner showers, while others have larger walk-in showers, so that may be worth considering when booking. Upstairs rooms offer individual modern HVAC units, while the main-floor rooms use a shared HVAC system to keep things comfortable. We had family stay in Napoleon, Art Deco, and Grand Budapest, who also enjoyed their experience. There’s also a laundry room on site with an iron and ironing board, which is a nice convenience, though it might not hurt to ask before snooping 😅. The rooms are thoughtfully stocked with soaps, towels, bottled water in the fridges, and even a small sewing kit. There’s also plenty to look at throughout the hotel, from interesting themed artifacts and decor to info about Alma’s history. It really feels like staying somewhere with a story rather than just staying at a hotel. Street parking is available out front, with an unloading and loading area in the back as well. Yes, there are trains, but that’s no secret and not something specific to Hotel De Ville. They’re very cool to watch fly by! If you’re a light sleeper, consider bringing earplugs or choosing a room toward the back. We’re already looking forward to making another trip back, hopefully when the garden is in full bloom, and seeing what else Alma has to offer. Hotel De Ville is clearly a labor of love, and we’re excited to see how it continues to evolve!”

“Great place to stay, Although there is a small string of truth to the reviews both positive and negative.This is a fantastic place to stay both location wise and comfort wise. We stayed in room #7.The prosIt was clean and well maintained. Beds were comfortable, shower had adaquit pressure and water flow.The negativeTV was to small and had a lack of volume.No big dealToilet rocked a little, probably just needs a new wax ring. No big dealThey have cats in their main living area and yes the office smells of cats.
