“ART INSTALLATION:

THE PERSONAL TOUCH, AND WHY IT MATTERS

We bought a wind sculpture from Leopold Gallery. We knew the gallery and were long-standing customers; we had known the owner for decades--since before he started the gallery. But unlike Leopold's many commercial customers, we had never purchased anything that needed to be installed. The wind sculpture is lovely, whether the wind is blowing or not. But this review is about the installation.

Paul Dorrell is the gallery owner. I was not surprised when it was Paul who showed up to do the installation by himself, but I was pleased.

The size of the sculpture required the digging of a large hole, the placement of the shaft that holds up the sculpture, fixing the shaft so it was perfectly vertical, mixing cement and pouring it around the shaft, waiting several hours for the cement to set, and then attaching and testing what I will call the "blades" of the sculpture.

Paul's gallery is in Kansas City, Missouri; we live in Lawrence, Kansas--an hour away. Paul made the trip to Lawrence, accomplished all of the tasks up to pouring the cement, then made good use of the time needed for the cement to cure to visit a friend in town! He came back a few hours later to complete the installation. When he was finished it was perfect.

Because we know Paul, and because he is a fine conversationalist, I was able to catch up with him and the gallery when he was doing the installation. All of that--observing how he did the work as well as the conversation--was great fun.

We now have a wind sculpture in our front yard. Thanks to Paul, it is not only beautiful but is also beautifully--and personally--installed. And our relationship with Leopold gallery is even stronger than before.”

“I can’t recommend Windhorse more highly. The artists are all incredibly skilled, professional, and respectful. Sitting in the shop for hours is easy - the vibe is super
chill.

I have been going to Mark for years for large and small tattoo projects because he is simply the best. I would not hesitate to go to any of the Windhorse folks, though.”

“Incredibly kind gallery owners with an amazing selection of art. I LOVED the gallery party I attended here and it was amazing to hear the artist, Rich Bowman, speak live on his collection and what drives him to create. I loved how they also had a smaller collection of more affordable art for those who might be budget conscious when shopping for art. If you are looking for unique, upscale art for your space, this is where you need to go!”

“I had been on a mission to find the best strawberry rhubarb pie in the city and was pleasantly surprised to find it at the Little Gallery Frame Shop. The filling is beautifully spiced and contains lots of fruit instead of relying on excessive amounts of sugary syrup for flavor. If I had any shame, I might be embarrassed by the number of pies I have bought from them in the short amount of time since I’ve known about them, but they’re just that good (plus I knew rhubarb season wouldn’t last forever ?). The mixed berry pie is also amazing and the couple that owns the place is really sweet.”
