“The selection here is good and the prices are reasonable, but what makes the Wine Barrel our favorite wine shop are 1) The awesome Friday night tastings, 2) The very friendly staff and 3) The little bar in front, where you can have a glass of what you just tasted or one of the other excellent choices. We've been here for three of the tastings and honestly, they can't be held responsible for the salesmen hosting the events, but they've all been good. It seems like there are always some fund people there with us for the events and we've had a good time all three times. We'll definitely be back.”

“We were pleasantly amazed! My son wanted fun, unique cheeses for his 21st birthday. Vivian was wonderful! She was very humble about her cheese knowledge, but amazed us with all kinds of information about each cheese, taste-wise and practical! She was kind and upbeat and offered my party of 4 samples for each cheese in which my son was interested. We ended up buying about 8 different kinds, and my son mentioned making The Wine and Cheese Place a regular stop in the future. I was also impressed that Vivian was always positive no matter what size we needed the cheese cut! We were thoroughly impressed with The Wine and Cheese Place on New Ballas Rd!”

The fun of this place is the hidden gems...fresh, on-site roasted coffee (try the Mocha Java), fish and sea food counter (like 'Bob's, but NOT so smelly?), amazing cheese and sausage selections, nice gourmet product selections in the grocery aisles. “Always love shopping at World Market as you can find so many interesting things there! Was able to find some stuff to finish up my Christmas shopping. There is a wide variety of items with lots of different options that would be hard to find somewhere else. Even though we went on the Sunday after Black Friday, staff was very friendly and helpful. The only thing docking a star is that some of the aisles are tight to get through. I have to use a cane/crutch for mobility purposes and it was a tight fit trying to go through a couple aisles especially if I was trying to get to one side so someone else could walk by. It would have been even worse if I had been in my wheelchair as some aisles I would not have been able to go down as I doubt it would have fit. Other than that, the store is great and fun to shop through.”

“I was here for less than five minutes and can't wait to go back. Wait staff was lovely. Got a coffee to go and a cherry turnover both to die for. Coffee was a chocolate raspberry that didn't totally wipe out that fresh coffee taste. Turnover is flakey and complimented my coffee nicely. “I want to say THANK YOU!!! I Just left the Dierbergs location in Des Peres and had the BEST customer service EVER!!! I was looking for beef short ribs. I asked the meat counter gentleman. he walked over with me to the place they should have been. there was only 1 pack and I really needed 3-5 pounds. he was nice enough to not only go see if he had any in the freezer but he also cut them and from full ribs. To me this is real customer service! This is just one example on why I drive past 4 other grocery stores to come to this location. THANK YOU for having the BEST employees!!!”

“I had fun on my Saturday browse of this shop during a recent visit. Having been to the former location of The Wine & Cheese Place (in a strip mall, juxtaposed with a Christian Science Reading Room), I found this Lamp & Lantern village location to be an upgrade - even though the space is compact, it doesn't have the feel of being claustrophobic and gets plenty of natural light. As other reviewers pointed out, the store features a solid collection of liquors and craft beers in addition to wines. I ended up picking up a bottle of St. George vodka to replenish my collection as I had previously tried and loved the gin from this brand. The wine selection is well organized by region and variety, even going so far as to include at-a-glance signage denoting which bottles are "patio pounders" (a phrase I have since appropriated). There happened to be a wine tasting underway. It's been a while but my recall is that it showcased three bottles - red, white, and either a rose or sparkling. The white evoked a sauvignon blanc, and I ended up with a bottle of that as well. The selection of cheeses and olives isn't extremely expansive, as other reviewers mentioned, but perhaps that was a business decision as Dierberg's market, Schnucks, and Whole Foods are just a stone's throw away. The Bloody Mary seasoned peanuts, which I have not seen anywhere else, are highly delicious.”
