Best place to shop for gear in Bozeman. The staff is always so helpful and kind, always great attitudes. Have never had an issue returning anything, and the ski shop is quick and easy. The membership service is wonderful as well, wish I could buy my groceries here too

It’s MLK Monday and -20. No one wants to be outside. My husband who is sick and I were desperate for help. We lost our Thule key due to our own careless ways and hoping for some help and direction. We purchased our Thule last year at REI in Bozeman so that was our first stop. The young guys at the sports shop handed us a ring of 100+ keys and said one of these keys should fit. We offered the millennials $$ to help us and due to “liability issues” they couldn't. Hard to believe but sad if true. My husband was in no condition to stand there in -20 degree weather so we opted to find a locksmith. Our angel is disguise was at Bozeman Safe and Lock by the name of Amy.I hope my son would offer more help to a bunch of senior citizens in desperate staits than these millennials did at REI. They need to hire older folks who care and willing to go the extra mile.

The company is extremely woke and sexualizes the shopping experience with pronoun badges. The last place I want to go to.

REI Bozeman is definitely different than REI Portland. This location is more about snow sports and mountain biking than anything else. The service is pretty good until it's not. Went to exchange a parka for a different size and was literally just left at the counter waiting for the gal to come back and help me but she never did. I had to find an employee to help me find the right size. They weren't even busy at the time. My second visit went a lot better. Needed some new Keens for getting around since my old ones had zero tread on the bottom. Found exactly what I needed and was happy with that. I then went over to the bike department to get some new tires for my e-bike but was disappointed in the selection and never found what I needed. The prices are comparable to all the other REI stores.

I have been a long standing and supportive customer of REI for more than 20 years. My husband worked for them for many years, and they have been a foundation in my outdoor adventures. REI was the only place my husband and I registered for our wedding. I am sad to be writing this review.Today when I stopped by to return a snowboarding jacket the interaction with the cashier was less than pleasant. John, was initially friendly until I mentioned that I would like to return the item and then he became much less friendly. His tone was demeaning. He reminded me several times that my return “could appear to some” as “taking advantage of the return policy”. Please note: this jacket had only been worn a few times and still had the tags. I informed him my husband and I have been members for a long time and understood the old and new policy regarding returns and my return was within my rights. He continues to make statements that felt pointed and left me feeling uncomfortable. I had to intentionally maintain calm but inside felt angry by the way he was treating me.I am saddened by this experience. I have not and do not take “advantage” of their return policy and understand that they have a more relaxed policy than most. One of the many reasons I love REI!I will consider other outdoor retailers in Bozeman before shopping at this store in the future. Regardless of policy the way I was spoken to was unacceptable.

Neck gator, hat and down sweater, all for less than the sweater retail! So glad I didn't miss this smartwool sale!

I gave it 1 star because there wasn't an option to give no stars. We walked in a half an hour before they closed and we're confronted by a young kid who probably was the dishwasher that proclaimed that they "like to get home too" so they stop taking customers at 9:30.

Signed up for the REI card because it sounded like it had a lot of benefits for loyal customers. I had already waited in line and didn’t want to run back to grab something out of the yard sale area because I was in a rush. When I left the store I called and asked an associate if you could put yard sale items on hold. She assured me yes, for 48 hours. I do not have a vehicle and worked very hard to get back to the store less than 24 hours later only for who I presume was the manager to tell me that was not protocol and she already spoken with the associate and the item had been put back on the shelf. Of course, it was gone. I told them I was very frustrated that they did not call me to let me know. The manager could have easily called or just let protocol slip the one time instead of me wasting my time, borrowing a friends car, driving there to be told “yeah we don’t have that.” Not even a sorry. Regretting signing up for the REI card now. Seems like a waste of $30. Don’t know if I’ll return. Maybe I’ll just stick to shopping online.

Not location specific, but Sad to hear REIs no longer carry Sockwells. That's what I spent the bulk of my shopping on there ($30 socks), plus I referred patients there for fun compression socks.Guess Amazon strikes again.Location specific: So I found a lovely Smartwool sweater, but noticed it had a snag in the middle of the chest. I brought it to the counter to inquire about the socks and see if they had any others. They did not. The sticker MSRP was $125. The clerk did not offer to see if a discount could be applied for the damaged one since they did not have others in stock. She mentioned I could order online.Unfortunately, if you keep referring people to buy online, they will, and the store will decline or close, which also means no employees. But also, if I have to go online to buy something, I'm going to check Amazon first. The same sweater was $93 on Amazon and would arrive to my door sooner than REI. I'd like to support businesses outside Amazon, but what's being offered? I went to the store and was not offered anything, simply told to go online, which I could have done anyhow and saved the gas to get to town.

Thank you to the team working on 1/27/23. We arrived in Bozeman to start a point-to-point trip through Yellowstone NP and two of us lost luggage. Everyone in the store helped us quickly locate the essentials we needed to replace. We appreciate your help!

REI is great and this store packs a lot into its small size, but goodness the cashiers need to work on their small talk. We don't all vote Democrat so just because I look affluent and talk like an educated person, don't assume I'm on your side. Thanks.
