What a great non profit. Reading is such a pivotal part of development! Please consider dropping off gently used books or volunteering!

This is a review for the experience I had with Spread the Word when they would visit the elementary school my kids went to. They would come in and let the kids grab a book off the tables and afterwards would read a book to the students. I love the idea of what they do and because of this I recently donated a large tub of books and the gentleman that was in the receiving area was very nice and seemed to be pretty happy about the donation.

Spread the Word Nevada provides books for low income communities. Our Scout Pack 931 Organized a volunteer night and I did not know much about the organization before signing up to volunteer with Scouts. You can register to volunteer on the website. They have several ways to Volunteer. We did the book preparation volunteering. Volunteer times are usually 2 hours on a Wednesday and Friday evenings from 6PM-8PM. When arriving at Spread the word it is good to know that you enter through a side door in a strip mall off of American Pacific and Gibson. Workers and volunteers then explain the process. Step 1; Grab some books. Step 2; Inspect the books for writing, tears or stickers. If the book is damaged, try to repair it or recycle it. Step 3; Clean it with a wet rag and dry off. Step 4; Categorize the book in 2 different boxes depending on if it has a bar code or not. There are also other bins for Spanish and Library books. Step 5; When you have filled a box someone grabs the box and puts in a bigger bin in the warehouse. Step 6; clean up your workstation! A few tips: You may want to wear vinyl or latex gloves when handling the books. Some had water damage and questionable stains.
