I've only had good experiences at Claremont Animal Hospital. Over a few years, I've seen many different vets and vet techs (I believe you can request a specific doctor but I just go with whoever is available), and all of them have been kind and informative. The vets walk me through all options available, pros and cons of each, being realistic about the costs and outcomes. There's never any judgement on my choices, especially when it comes to financial based decisions. They've also been really great with my anxious dog who's not happy to be at the vet (and my friendly dog who loves all the attention, too, of course). Recently I've started using the PetDesk app which is helpful for scheduling appointments.

Pet-Friendly Restaurants

The Common Man Inn

21 Water St, Claremont

An absolute gem. We loved it here and didn’t want to leave! The inn is so cozy and welcoming, and the staff was very friendly. All 3 meals we had at the restaurant were also delicious.
We stayed two nights because we were visiting from Jersey for an appointment up the street at Union Block Tattoo. The inn was a perfect choice not only because it was in walking distance, but I knew there would be plenty of quiet places for me to sit and read while my husband was busy. The restaurant also offered celiac friendly gluten free options, which was a necessity for me.
We stayed in one of the pet friendly rooms on the first floor and as soon as we walked in I was blown away at how beautiful the room was. It was the cleanest hotel room I’ve ever stayed in, the bed was more comfortable than ours at home, and the interior brick walls were absolutely stunning. We honestly felt so at home.
Having coffee in the lobby all day was a great perk, and I was grateful for some gluten free options in the breakfast nook as well.
Sitting by the water and reading was so peaceful, and thankfully it was nice enough to eat dinner on the restaurant patio by the water also. Magical views.
And last but certainly not least- Clare. The resident kitty! It was awesome to have a cat away from home lol

We’ve already planned to come back in the fall, and we can’t wait!

Wade's Place

A very good selection of hard ice cream flavors, soft serve, frappes, sundaes and more. The service was a bit slow the evening we we were there but what's the big hurry when you go out for ice cream? There are picnic tables and benches where you can sit to enjoy your treats near the river. There is some traffic noise but it's still a nice spot. If you like soft serve, I recommend the maple/ black raspberry twist, if they have it. The small is quite substantial!

The Common Man Restaurant Claremont

16 Mill Road, Claremont

Had a delicious night at The Common Man that surpassed expectations. Started with a perfectly balanced Bee’s Knees cocktail with an adorable mini wooden honey dipper as the garnish. Dinner was the ginger soy tuna with low menu noodles and it was fresh and flavorful. Paired well with a NZ Sav blanc (they had two choices by the glass). Would happily return and order everything again.
