“Delightfully protective bookshop! I was strolling about Portsmouth, whistling, as I often tend to do when that cozy sensation of chirpiness regarding existence swells within me, when I was abruptly besieged by a diabolical gang of pugnaciously pesky, purloining pigeons. Swooping down in coordinated attacks they pilfered (Oh, lament!) from my very hands a cream-cheese-covered bagel (Oh, lugubrious lament!) and a mother-of-pearl ring (Oh, loquaciously lugubrious lament!) I received from an ex-lover, a flexible accountant from the suburbs of Cleveland. Oh, the pigeons were unrelenting! So mean, so threatening, so audible! I dashed into the nearest refuge....and discovered the peaceful realm of Sheafe Street Books! I immediately 'took a load off' in a comfortable arm chair, and gathered my wits about me. A few deep, meditative breaths, and a purchase of writings by Thich Nhat Hanh and I was prepared once more to face the onslaught of those bizarre pigeons, specifically, and for the oceanic tides of Time, in general. A quiet, well stocked bookshop, I will certainly return when in town again.”

“What a lovely shop! It is inviting and perfectly appointed. I came back in the same day to get the books I had talked myself out of on my first trip. The staff was very friendly and i felt at home even when I was really 1,700 miles from home. I wish them a long and storied life in helping children become who they’re going to be.”

I heard that typewriters are making a comeback so if you plan on being a ?''Paperback Writer ", this bookstore will be a great ? place to start! Beatle's music was playing when I visited.The man who was working the day I visited was very friendly and helpful. We talked about the history of the weather ☁️ of Portsmouth.”
