“I’ve consistently had great experiences at BJ’s in Rutherford. The store is convenient, well-stocked, and the employees have always been helpful. My only disappointment is the lack of monitoring of the parking spaces designated for families with infants and young children.

On our most recent visit, my wife was breastfeeding our infant in the car before we went inside to shop. During that time, we watched six different cars pull into these designated family parking spaces, and not one appeared to have an infant or young child with them.

I understand these spaces may not have the same legal protections as handicapped parking, but I do think BJ’s could do more to discourage people from taking advantage of them. These spots can make a huge difference for a mother or father carrying an infant, managing a stroller, or trying to safely get multiple young children in and out of the car.

I’d love to see BJ’s consider clearer signage, periodic monitoring by parking lot or security staff, warnings for vehicles misusing the spaces, or, if legally permissible, enforcement or towing.

This hasn’t changed my overall positive opinion of the Rutherford BJ’s, but I hope management takes a look at the issue. The spaces are there for a reason, and ensuring they’re available to the families who actually need them would make an already good shopping experience even better.”
