“This is one of those places you wish you knew about earlier. I'm used to going to places where I have to kind of dig for what I like, but this place...seems to have something I like everywhere i look.
Tip, don't forget to look up and down, don't just stay at eye level. I found a hat I liked which was pretty high up and i'm glad I saw it.
You can tell the people who curate it know what they're doing and that they care - there are amazing brands, quality materials (at the moment - they just put out their fall collection- that includes a lot of cashmere!) You can get inspired by the products they have (I've learned about brands and types of jewelry) and even get ideas from the way they style their mannequins.
I didn't notice it consciously at first, but even the music they play in the store seems to have been chosen with care. I find myself dancing when I go in. That's the vibe i get in here - deliberate and careful curation done with heart.
The people who work here, at least every single person I interacted with, was very kind, friendly and down to earth. Just the right amount of friendly chatter, and no one ever made me feel pressured to buy anything - just made me feel at home and welcomed.
The pricing is extremely fair in my opinion, for the level of quality you're getting. I am trying to learn to manage my wardrobe, decluttering and whittling things down to favorites that I will wear for years, and I think some pieces I recently got here will be favorites for years to come. They're unique items, made of great materials with interesting design.
There is a downstairs where they have books, furniture and housewares like candelabras, espresso sets, that kind of thing. They do take donations.
This is one of my new favorite finds and it's for a worthy cause. I got on their mailing list to learn about events and sales they have. I sound like a salesperson but have no affiliation with them....I just appreciate this place and the people in it. The only 'negative' for me, is I wish it was closer to where I live but I will consider it a place to go when I need to get away. I've been twice and each time found/bought things I loved and have been on my wish list for a while. I'm glad I finally learned of this place; better late than never.”
“I stumbled upon the Upper East Side Thrift Shop recently and was pleasantly surprised by the wide selection of items at fantastic prices. It felt like discovering a hidden gem with each aisle I explored. The staff was friendly and helpful. If you're in the area, be sure to check out both locations on 1st Ave and 87th Street, as well as 2nd Ave and 89th Street. Support this local business, you never know what treasures you might find!”
“I absolutely love this store. I recently started learning how to sew, so I decided to buy a few different blouses and dresses because I want to redesign them to my liking. However, I didn’t wanna spend a lot of money so I went to two different thrift stores in New York City and it just so happens that I came across this one and I love the store because all of the clothing is so inexpensive thank you so much and the kindness is really nice and the sore too.”
“MFTA has been like the heart and soul of the arts and cultures in NYC. This company and staff are great! Thanks the donors that keep donating year after year.❤️??”

“Well, for $120 my daughter and girlfriend got a black skirt, a pair of silver high heels, a fluffy red jacket, a sequined black party dress, and a red sport coat. They loved it. Like any other used clothing store you have to hunt and search.”
“It's a gem in Queens this store. Quality items to purchase but at affordable prices. I found two modern living room chairs for under $200 in excellent condition.
If you are redoing your home decor or just setting up a new place stop by this store to get some incredible finds. Also, check their website for online shopping.
Staff was friendly and helpful too.”
“this is by far the best thrift store ive ever been to. vintage finds, everything is highly affordable and extremely well priced, and the volunteers are so sweet. the cats are just the cutest as well.
adoption for cats i was told are $195 and comes with everything: cats are chipped, vaccinated, spayed/neutered, and comes with their expensive cat food >_< an amazing price for a forever friend.”

“Really love this place. The prices are great and it's in a good location. I always find something I like. Today I got these great biker boots. It's affordable, ranging from $5 to about $50. My boots where $26 size 7. I also got a beautiful pink jacket/ coat like 2 weeks ago. If you spend some time and look around you will find gems.”
“Been living in East Harlem for a year and this is easily my favorite thrift store. We’ve gotten so many items for our apartment at great prices. Additionally, the people working have always been kind and helpful.”
“Probably my favorite thrift at the moment. Not only do they have a wide selection of merchandise at amazing prices, but the church it supports is an open, welcoming and inclusive church! The volunteers/staff are always friendly and helpful. There is always great turn around of merchandise, I always find something new when I go, which is quite often. They’ve done an overhaul of the layout and it’s been a great change. Everything is always neatly organized and displayed in well-curated manners.”
“I have been going to this place for a very long time and there have been a lot of good managers who have come and gone but the current one David is one of the nicest I have ever met. He is a professional at what he does. He is a hard worker, he treats the staff nicely and his customer service is impeccable. Thank you David for making shopping at Thriftland a more pleasant experience. The store is one of the best thrift stores in the Bronx. It’s clean and has better quality goods and the staff are friendly as well.”
“It is a wonderful place. I came to this country a year ago and they have not stopped collaborating with us. I have three children and they have always supported us in everything. Miss Jessica is a sweetheart. The pastor, the pastor and all her staff are really nice and meaningful people. collaboration to ?”
“I normally donate tons of expensive stuff here and the ladies working there are super nice. Today though (12/26/2023), there was a white older woman who was a witch! Mean and rude! I have never seen her there before but I hope to never see her again. If she is volunteering, she should just stay home and avoid working with people since she doesn't seem to know what customer friendly means. Super cranky and horrible attitude!”
“Excellent service, it is very clean and they are very friendly, the clothes are good brand names and very cheap, the best of all is that they add new clothes every week”
“Great selection of clothing, home goods, and other miscellaneous items. They started to carry plants as well. Def a gem in the neighborhood with affordable prices!”
“selection is definitely hit and miss like any consignment store. you can find some awesome designer items for great prices if you're patient and sift through everything/come back periodically. for example, i got an 100% cashmere brooks brothers peacoat in near perfect condition for $125 but have also walked out of here empty-handed many times. don't expect thrift store prices, but items are generally in better condition than other thrift stores in the neighborhood”
“do not expect real thrift store prices at this location. for example, a men's polo ralph lauren button down goes for about $35. that being said, their items are well-curated and include good brands like theory, DVF, emporio armani, etc. they are also consistently in good condition and support a great cause. shoe selection at this store is also exceptionally good in comparison to other locations - manolo blahnik, ferragamo and jimmy choo are regularly spotted here”

“I used to volunteer here in 2017-2019 and they had very good clothing donations that were all sent to auctions or best of season events. What you’re left with every day is $15 USED h&m t-shirts that cost $9.99 new, random trinkets that if you buy, you get rid of after a year, and stupid overpriced designer items.
So today I walked by the store and saw that they were doing the best of fall. There was a line but im disabled and I showed them proof and asked if there was anywhere I could sit while I waited and they said just ask the person at the end of the line if you can join them when they’re at front. I said ok and waited 50 minutes. The person I talked to left and I asked them what I could do. They said they I could just stand at the end of the line, disregarding my disability. The third person I asked said she could give me a folding chair and wait at the end of the 100 person line. I waited for like 5 minutes and realized I had to pick up a prescription sooo. Bye chair lol.”

“There is a young man who is the worst. I asked him twice about something and he didn't answer me and then he answered me in Spanish. I mean, he did know the language. My clothes fell to the floor and he left the store. He didn't sell me. He told me the devil. It doesn't exist and he doesn't care if I report this way, he offended me and yelled at me in front of everyone.”
“A true thrift store is hard to find these days but Ditmars Thrift has the vibe. Prices are amazing, place is clean overall, and some true hidden gems in there. I can't wait to go back, honestly.
It's small but mighty- worth stopping in!”

“I love this shop! Def not to be missed! Tucked in amongst LOTS of Latin food cafes, food trucks, and bakeries, and very lively streets selling just about everything, sits a not so little, not so hidden absolute gem! Aforementioned venues are surely worth the visit to Jackson Heights, but I couldn’t feel more blessed to find El Baratón across the street from our building… it has made getting dressed in lazy mornings so much easier to do when that “1 item” has gone missing, I know I can pop in for a thrifty scarf or a new Zara blazer, or top label 2ndhand staple jeans and tees… or a quirky fur (faux for sure) jacket. Racks of sneakers and flats and boots in great condition- my only 1 complaint- ? they tend to suit smaller sized feet than my average 8’s. Because they are cute. As are the staff and owner, always helpful and the curator/gm/owner- always a doll with stories and style, if you just want to chat! Kids and mens’ stuff too!”
“Wish I could've bought the jacket I wanted here but alas it was one size too small, what a shame. But the experience was WORTH IT. I am like probably one of the few people who LOVE how absolutely narrow it was, so be warned it is like one person at a time at least when I shopped there. But I just loved that slight clutter (it was actually as organized as they probably could make it with all the items they had), just felt like a portal of sorts coming into it from the outside. I also like how a bit of the store it kept on the streets. Really want to come back here again and find something that's cool again and hopefully fits me because those jackets I wanted were truly unique, and by most standards maybe a bit tacky or not very fashionable, but I loved em. Again, hope I can come back soon and thanks for the experience!”

“Spent 6 months of my life here...came out on the other side a changed man. I kicked booze & drugs , got my Drivers license back, social security card, NYC ID, Medicaid all taken care of over that time. Had medical procedure I had needed done for years accomplished. I became Born Again in Christ. I worked out every evening in their top flight gym including internet enhanced (NordicTrak Bikes, rowing machine, elliptical, and treadmill). Picked up good work habits as part of a wharehouse crew. This place is a hidden gem . Im writing this almost a year to the day of my first walking through those doors. I have a career now , my own place, and a life that I am proud of with plenty of opportunity going forward.Amen”
“l. I finally went into Hour Children on Steinway Street., 31-12 Steinway Street. They are no longer taking donations until mid-January, and I liked the layout and attitude of the staff! They have lots of toys, gifts, and clothing, and you can see from the photos that they do not look like a regular donation store. I might drop off a few things in the New Year for my 2024 tax deductions.”

“Leave yourself a couple of hours to make the most of your trip as the clothing is rummage (nothing is in size order), there really are some amazing finds - I found a pair of brand new Levi's for $14.99!! Some good brands and being a curvier woman, plenty of size 16+, which is a rarity in thrift stores in the UK! It's absolutely worth checking out if you love thrift shopping!!”

“Unfortunately a lot of items don't have price tag, it seems a recurrent issue from certain customers that frequent this location that remove the price tags in order to exchange them with a lower price tag. I hope Mgmt. can identify the culprits, it makes the entire shopping experience somewhat dull, from not purchasing the item or pay a full price when this could have been a discounted item. I suggest them to stapple item better and identify clients that are persisting with these practices. Overall things are organized, good illumination.”
“This has to be the best second hand store in nyc,I was there today ( my first time ) I saw videos on tiktok and everything its true you will find very good deals i got a sofa bed from blue dot for very good price RAY OR TAY I forgot the name but he was the only guy in there, his really helpful and friendly, very ,very good customer service...”
