I purchased the car about 40 years ago and have garaged and babied it since acquisition. When it was one year old in 1984, a lawn chair in my garage fell on the hood. It was a traumatic experience. I brought my car to Livingston Collision and Gene (the principal of Livingston Collision who since has passed away) replaced the hood and did a wonderful job. I recently had some work done to the car at another shop and somehow the hood got out of alignment. I decided to go back to Livingston Collision to have them see if it was possible to readjust the hood. I met with JR (who is Gene’s son) and explained that back in 1984 his dad had replaced the car hood. JR was wonderful to work with and he spent the time to explain the problem and the solution to the repair.

When I went back to the shop a few hours later, the car was outside and the hood was sitting in the closed position perfectly aligned. I believe that the repair took talent as this was done by hand with several fine adjustments to get it just right. More of an art than a science that only an experienced auto body technician could do. JR was wonderful to work with. I have used Livingston Collision a few years ago to replace a bumper on my Volvo from a minor accident. They did a great job then and a wonderful job now.”

Bigger picture is that they are an essential part of a terrific life hack. Here’s how it works: I like nice cars but spending $50-90k strikes me as insane. So when I need to buy a car, I let depreciation work for me by 1) identifying the exact, 8-10 year old car I want, 2) Saving a search on that model in an app like Autolist with a very low maximum mileage spec, 3) when it pops up, buying that rare unicorn of a car that someone bought but rarely drove, 4) finding a nearby certified independent mechanic who specializes in that brand to do maintenance and repairs at a rate comparable to other general mechanics. Say goodbye to the stealership. For me, that last part is met by Monty’s German Auto. Good guys. Know their stuff. Reasonably priced. Use them.”

“Have used MAB in the past with no issues. Was recently hit while parked so had to get my Subaru back bumper & tail light replaced. State Farm had MAB on their list of approved repair shops (thank goodness). JP & everyone else on the team were very courteous & easy to work with & they were able to order the parts fairly quickly (a week) and then turn around the repair work within 2 days. They even buffed out other minor scratches. I was also pleasantly surprised to see that they also vacuumed out the inside driver & passenger sides so it was nice & clean when I picked my car up. They kept me updated on the status of my repairs via text & email. They also do offer short distance rides which I appreciated but didn't need. I highly recommend them. MAB is a family owned & run company with a long history in Madison so I am happy to support them with my business.”

“Don’t believe the negative reviews. John is knowledgeable and delightful to deal with and is honest. Old school service which is very difficult to find. He really knows what he’s doing and doesn’t price gouge. It was just by chance I found John. I was rebounding from an horrific experience with Denville Bear and Body Morristown and Denville after being satisfied with their work for over 15 years. My Saab 2006 Aero convertible had so much damage in an accident insurance wanted to total it, but I didn’t want to as it only had 70,000 miles. It had been towed to Denville Bear and Body Morritown , and I waited over 6 months for repairs. After 3 complaints my headlamps weren’t set right and a rude employee who was annoyed at me for complaining. The roll up bars had ejected and from the website Just Answer spoke to a Saab expert who sent me a diagram on how to reset the roll up bars. I took the car to my Saab mechanic in Boonton who finally fixed the headlights and told me the roll up bars were reset but the lock box which would eject them again was never installed even Denville Bear and Body had a detailed illustration. They had been paid over $7500.00 for their work and there was out of pocket for me. The front lower bumper is very low and can scrape very easily. I went to see an owner in Denville, Kurt, and when I told him I had to pay for repairs that they had failed to do and got paid for. He said he would repaint my low bumper no charge. When I picked the car up there was a light on on the exterior that wouldn’t turn off. I went directly to my Saab mechanic who told me the wires for the lights weren’t installed properly and charged me $350.00 to fix them. The car never should have been released to me by Denville Bear and Body who should have repaired the problem. I went back to Kurt to ask him to pay me for costs to me for a wiring problem he should have addressed before releasing the car to me. He said he wouldn’t reimburse me and did more than he had to to compensate me for the inferior workmanship on my car. Note that the Morristown location has a broken gravel driveway and you risk damage from the gravel after picking up your repaired car. STAY AWAY FROM DENVILLE BEAR AND BODY.
John can be trusted and I’m thankful to have found him. Hopefully I won’t ever need auto body work again, but if I should John at Morristown Auto Body will be my go to person.”
