This location is one of the best I have encountered while renting with AVIS/BUDGET. I've picked up from here at least 5 times and had flawless experience. Convenient location and prompt service gets you going in 10min after getting off the PATH train. Most of the cars are new and relatively clean. The highest odometer reading I have encountered is 17K miles.4/5 because general Avis customer experience can be garbage. I rent through the amazon benefits discount program, where you get 10% back in amazon gift card after the rental. I did not receive the cashback after the last time I rented here. After spending an hour on the phone with the general Avis customer support the issue has been acknowledged but no resolution followed.My suggestion to this location is to establish an off the hours pickup/return process for vetted customers. The parking garage is secure and seems to be open 24h, but cars can only be picked up and returned during the office hours.Edit: Received amazon benefits credit 25 days after rental return.

The worst service ever! Made a reservation, called the service number to say we would pick up the car in the morning instead of the evening before, service number says that is fine, your call will be there... Guess what, no car, they gave it to someone else. How, the reservation is for 3 days. Come on! We called, corporate says it will be there and completely fine to come in the morning.Avis Newport you are FAILING!

Absolute worst rental car experience ever. Staff was rude, unhelpful, and lied to me. Was charged extra despite being told I would not be. Will never rent from AVIS again because of this location.I've rented from AVIS in the past and had no problems! My one rental from this specific location has completely ruined my image of AVIS as a company however.To make this quick:* I rented a car for the weekend* Car itself was fantastic.* When I went to return the car on Sunday, we hit bad traffic (it is Jersey City / NYC after all..)* I call this location four times to let them know I will miss the drop off time I indicated, not a single call was answered.* We ended up being about an hour late to AVIS (which I was trying to inform them of..)* AVIS is closed, there is no key drop off.* I call the AVIS hotline and am told "Don't worry about it! You can mail the key back for no fee / fine."* I receive a very rude call the next morning from this Avis location informing me that I will be charged an additional day + fee for each day that I hold onto the keys, despite being told there would be no additional charge previously.* I take two hours out of my Monday to ride the train back over to AVIS and return the key due to this threat of being fined, rather than mailing it back.* Once there, the entire staff is rude, unhelpful, and on their phones, even while I am at the desk talking to them. Yet they couldn't answer a single of my four phone calls the day previously?* I still get fined an extra 40% of my entire rental, despite A) trying to contact them four times to inform them of the problem proactively, B) returning the car only an hour late, C) being told I will not be fined more, and D) taking time out of my day to help them get the key back sooner.This location could have avoided this entirely in literally any of three ways:1) Have a key drop. Duh. If you close at 5PM on Sunday, people around NYC *will* hit traffic and be late. I've never seen a car rental without a key drop.2) Answer a single one of the four phone calls I made while they were still open. This way we could've figured out an alternative plan / dropoff.3) Not been rude and condescending and charge me extra, when I was previously told this would not happen.My actual rental experience was fine. However, my return process + trying to get an actual answer out of the staff at this location was actually worse than pulling teeth. I get a fantastic AVIS discount through my job and even with that, I will be renting from Enterprise or Turo from now on.

This Avis is by far the best rental car company in the area. I’ve had many good experience with them in the past year. The cars are all in good condition and newer models. The prices are great compared to others, especially if you get the membership. And there is no surprising charges. The pick up/return processes are always smooth.

I placed a reservation for a small four-door sedan a month and a half prior to my reservation date. Despite the time I was instead rented a large minivan, fitting up to 7 people. This led to finding parking being very time consuming and difficult. During my trip I drove through two towns with very narrow streets which let to a lot of frustration because of how large the vehicle was.It was a hybrid vehicle but the electric part of the vehicle had not been charged at all. Thus, completely defeating the purpose and benefit of driving a hybrid vehicle.I asked the clerk to add tolls coverage, but he did not and all of my tolls were marked "unpaid" throughout my trip. Which will inevitably lead to my having to spend even more on the rental.The final kicker was when I went to return the car. The clerk was rude and dismissive from the jump. He asked for "the paper" repeatedly and after providing two different documents he finally clarified he needed the inspection document. When I told him I needed to go do that now, he was shouting at me "I told you! I told you where you needed to go! I told you need to get it inspected!" I felt embarrassed by the way he was speaking to me in such a public setting.Wrong, inconvenient car type AND bad customer service?I'll be going to the Hertz for any car rentals from now on.

I am writing this review after a memorable experience we had. While the car was in the best shape and perfect, what I really liked was the car handover experience. I would really like to call out Mr Nikhil's customer satisfaction approach as he was calm and polite while there was a shortage of Cars for 15 mins in Labor day long weekend. I rent from these guys nearly every week and have always had a great experience. They are efficient, accommodating, and friendly. Since this is a mall location, the logistics are a little tricky to pick up and drop off if you haven't rented from them before, but overall, they provide one of the best rental experiences that I've had in the area.

Renter beware: Agents at this location will give you a fully electric vehicle without informing you.Upon arriving at the rental counter, I found the staff to be inattentive and lacking the necessary attention to detail. They handed over the keys with a casual mention that the fuel was at 80%, advising me to photograph the dashboard. They failed to tell me the type of car I was getting, but when I asked informed me it was a Hyundai Genesis. For reference, I reserved a Camry. I photographed the dash as advised and then drove away.The lack of transparency became evident the next day when I realized I had only about 20 miles left until empty. I pulled over to locate a gas station. After fruitlessly searching for a gas tank, I finally turned to Google, only to discover that I had been handed an all-electric vehicle. To my dismay, I was in an area with limited electric charging stations, and the only available option charged at a frustratingly slow pace of 19 miles per hour.My next few hours were spent stranded at the charging station, alone and growing increasingly frustrated. This situation was exacerbated by an active tornado watch, making the experience not only inconvenient but potentially unsafe. Charging an electric vehicle proved to be an unnecessarily complicated endeavor, involving downloading an app to access public charging stations and dealing with charging ports that were nowhere near their conventional gas counterparts.The aftermath of this mishap incurred additional expenses, including $60 in Uber rides to and from charging stations. This not only negated the purpose of renting a car but also demonstrated a significant flaw in Avis's rental process. It's entirely unacceptable to provide customers with a vehicle without adequately explaining its unique features and how to operate it.Thankfully, I had a charged phone and the ability to locate a charging station in an unfamiliar area. I also found myself in a relatively safe neighborhood. However, had the circumstances been different, this oversight could have resulted in a much more dire situation. If you're considering renting from this particular Avis location, I strongly advise confirming the type of vehicle you'll be receiving and seeking explicit instructions on its operation.In conclusion, my experience with Avis was marked by poor communication, lackluster service, and an inability to cater to customers' needs. I hope that Avis takes this feedback seriously and works towards prioritizing their customers' safety.

Great for last minute reservations. Service is quick even on weekends and the cars they have are in good shape/state. Return process is also pretty straight forward. The only downside is that it is a bit of a walk between the front desk (inside the mall) and the parking garage where the cars are.

Always a great rental experience. Reasonable price with availability on both days during weekend. I have mostly got the nice and new car models. The service at counter is fast and the staff is polite and courteous

I picked up Nissan rouge …. It was really good car very smooth brand new car with cleaned. I would request you to take insurance because we can’t trust situations. Also the staff is supportive and very helpful. Give there 5 mins and u all set to go.

Had a reservation for about 6 weeks for a full sized car with two car seats at this Newport location. When I showed up for the reservation they didn't have any of the car seats (only an infant seat). I understand that sometimes mistakes happen and inventory gets used. It's really, really frustrating...but it happens. Why I'm giving the 1 star, is that the staff really refused to do anything to help. They suggested going to Newark airport (30 min away) to get car seats. Ok, then can you call ahead to guarantee the seats and see if they have them. Nope. Refused to even call just saying that the Airport office wouldn't pick up their call. Again, the lack of car seats was really frustrating, but it's just their refusal to help rectify the situation that makes this location deserving of the 1 star.

Worst car hire experience ever. Rude staff, rushed information and inaccurate description that car was clean. When asked I was told vehicles aren't 100% cleaned especially not outside. This was covered in tree sap of some sort which made it sticky,windows were so dirty on sides you couldn't see properly and interior had crumbs and greasy fingerprints. Staff didn't care at all. Would recommend Avis Montgomery St which is 1/2mile further but infinitely better on all fronts.
