I rented a car here from October 13 to October 15 for $147.50. Pick-up at Newark Airport, dropoff two days later at JFK Airport. They charged me a hidden one way fee of $382.71. Abusive and a clear intent to deceipt. Avoid this company or make sure you get all the fees upfront, they will not add them to the total of your contract.

Stay away from this dollar location. Agents are lying deceptive thieves in my opinion . Corporate not much better. Charged me for declined options and then switched contracts upon drop off. downgraded my vehicle as well. Customer service was a disservice, and their rental office at the airport was filthy and reminded me of the worst parts of Newark back in the day in every way. PLEASE learn from my experience and do not do business here. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED

We went to this location due to our car breaking down in NYC. We made a reservation for a vehicle and were told our pick up time was at 2 pm and the vehicle was available. Upon arrival, we luckily did not have to wait in a long line but were greeted by a very rude customer service agent. They immediately asked for our information but were short, wouldn’t let us finish our sentences and abrasive. For customer service, the rating is a 1. We were then told by that agent, that the car we reserved was not available and we would need to wait a couple of hours for it to be possibly ready. We had an emergency and a 6 hour drive ahead of us and could not wait that time. So we asked what vehicle is available and the only one was a premier vehicle that was another $200 up charge. For transparency, communication and the fact we made a reservation, the rating is a 1. Overall, our experience here was below average. The customer service was horrendous and the transparency when it comes to reserving a vehicle should be more catering to the customers rather than up charging and making them wait additionally. Personally we will never use dollar rental again.

We all had to wait almost 2 hours in line. Then when you get to the front, they say your car will be here in 40 minutes! So most likely a person is looking at over 2 1/2 hours to rent the car. So because I had already missed some of my appointments for the day I needed to leave. So all they had was a Mustang convertible, which I did not need in the rain. I paid $100 extra for it so I could leave and not miss the appointment I flew across the country for. Additionally, she pulled out a chart showing Basic, Super, Premium. Something like that. I pointed to Basic. However I did not realize that one charged me $41 per day extra. I was so flustered and worried about being so late I did not realize it. I wanted the level I signed up for where you don't pay any more because my personal insurance covers it. I thought the "Basic" name was misleading. I asked the representative if this was a bad day with the long long wait and she said, no it's always like this. It's a total racket. I felt completely cheated. I will never use Dollar again ever. Don't go to Dollar-Thrifty. Save yourself 2 1/2 hours of misery.

Lady at the counter was very rude, we were talking about the insurance and was told it was around $35. They make you keep your card in the terminal for like 5 minutes, the once I got the receipt, I was charged $480. Apparently it was $35-$40 Per Day which was never said. Then I told the lady to cancel the insurance because she never said "Per Day" then she started being rude and raising her voice. Luckily I got my money back 5 days later, but what if someone was on a small budget while visiting and now that would make them almost $500 less to spend while on their trip. This place needs to find a new hiring manager

I am trying to recover a LOST item left in the vehicle I rented. The vehicle was returned on 10-22-23 at the NEWARK NJ Location . The item is a Pair of wireless Skull candy ear buds. I have registered the LOST item, on your website, it is showing as being found on 10-14-23. I have tried numerous times to call and NO ONE is answering. Who can assist me in getting MY PRIOERTY back. NO I do not live in NJ I cannot swing by and pick them up. I understand I will get the RUN AROUND please HELP ME!!!

Terrible wait time, impatient and unfriendly staff. We booked our car rental in a package including our hotel and flights and the only issues have been with dollar budget. Would recommend to stay clear.

Worst car rental experience ever. Will never do business with Hertz/Dollar car rental again. Enterprise all the way.After waiting 2 hours in line we got to the counter and were told that we had rented a pickup truck. LIES! So the older lady at the counter told us she only had one car available for us. I asked her a price and she kept diverting the question by saying “don’t worry, I’ll take care of you”. Short version of the story, she ended up charging us more money for the car. Their bait and switch tactics get you to their counter but expect to pay more while receiving if the worst service. Also, they will go out of their way to upsell you insurance and unlimited tolls. Never again.

Horrible location I reserved a full size vehicle was given a beat up Camery with Florida plates which is a midsized vehicle. I requested a Ford edge this should be equivalent to a Chevy Equinox was charged $1,197.00 by a very argumentative rude young girl at the Newark location. She was combative instead of trying to rectify the situation two coworkers witnessing the engagement stepped in to assist. I called HERTZ Corporate in Florida the customer service department was unable to assist they want me to physically go back to Newark airport to modify the rental agreement which is a simple task that should be able to be done by phone.

Customer Service is very Terrible, Unprofessional, Rude,. And just Don't Care..When's ask how long I had wait I was told whatever long it takes ..Took them 90 mins just trying to Renr a car that I already had reserved & Pay for..and no Bathroon service...I Do Not Recommend ..NEWARK Airport Dollar car Rental!!!!

I think this place is still doing business because of people like me who rush to book a car from Dollar before checking the reviews. They are pretty consistent with no star and bad reviews. Please don’t do the same mistake as we did. We were visiting from Canada and rented 2 cars. Upon arrival we din get the cars we paid for. Horrible customer service. Counter staff was pushing us to buy everything such as insurance, toll etc. we we’re covered and toll was not necessary based on our purpose of travel. But she just wanted to give us everything without explaining in a very rude manner. We were already unhappy because of not getting the same cars. She said we might wait for hours to have same cars we booked! After all formalities were done. We we’re waiting outside where she asked us to wait for the keys. We waited almost 30mins and she din show up. So I went in to look for her, she said she will come but don’t know when. We waited almost an hour to get the keys. They have a contact number where no one pick up your call. I called to ask for some information regarding return as we din wanna miss our flight while returning! Couldn’t speak to anyone. If you are looking to book from Newark airport, please go for other car rental!!

Highly not recommended. Besides the long wait before reaching the counter (45 mins despite booking ahead), they wanted to give me a pickup truck although I 100% booked a car, and then when I said I need a car with a closed trunk, they ended up charging me extra per day for a "downgrade", ending up in 100s more. Tolls cannot be paid online; it's either a $26/day flat fee or $10/toll service fee on top of the toll price. Weeks later I'm still getting toll bills from Dollar with no date or toll plaza ID, so I have no idea how they incured. I also find a $250 fee (they call it an intercity fee) to give the car back in a different city than where you rented it personally a bit high. Service personal was also pretty unaccommodating and not friendly. Several people in line ahead of me also had several negative surprises costing them extra. One guy rented an electric car and they wanted to give him one that needed to be charged first, so he had to pay extra for a gas car. The only good thing is that I actually got a car and it was ready on the lot. Avoid or you'll end up paying double like we did.

Made a reservation- car not ready. Trying to tell us it’s not their fault, and saying they can give us a car if we pay an extra 100$+. What is the point in making a reservation if you don’t have a car ready for us? And- if you don’t have the same car, don’t make us pay extra for the closest car you have available.Also tried to get us to pay for EZ PASS, saying it’s cheaper than paying tolls- when they’re charging per day and we’re only going through one toll.

After a sudden canceled flight, it was a relief to quickly secure a car using Dollar Car Rental. May was extremely helpful and kind throughout the entire process. She made a stressful situation much easier. She quickly got us in a clean SUV in less than 15 minutes.
