About Mount Vernon Elementary School
Mount Vernon School is located in the West Ward of Newark, NJ called Vailsburg. Vailsburg was annexed to Newark on January 1, 1905. This annexation was the last time the City of Newark annexed any territory. Mount Vernon School was opened for classes in 1954, two years after the Ivy Hill Apartments opened. Mt. Vernon School is a mini United Nations, just like the Ivy Hill Apartments. Mt. Vernon School has 688 students. The building houses children from Pre-Kindergarten through eighth grade. Mt. Vernon’s staff and student body represent a diverse background of individuals from more than 50 countries. This neighborhood includes Mount Vernon and two other public elementary schools; Ivy Hill and Lincoln.

LOVE IT AND STILL DO. But this year has got out of hand, but more drama for me lol. I'm in the fifth grade now and have been s=attending since kindergarten. :)

It is a good school with lots of drama in it but the teachers are very good especially Mrs.Carlisle and Mr.St.Fort is the best teachers I ever had. The party we had to day was one more day of school left snacks for room 202 bring cups
