“7-ELEVEN – The Only Place Where a Bochur Can Buy a Drink, Have an Existential Crisis, and Still Be Home in Time for Maariv

Let’s be honest:
Nobody plans to end up at the 7-Eleven in Perth Amboy.
It just… happens.
Like a sudden chiyuv on the amud or being volunteered to speak at a vort without warning.

? THE DRINKS SITUATION

You walk in thinking you’re getting a simple bottle of soda.
Nothing fancy, nothing dramatic.
Next thing you know, you’re standing in front of the refrigerated section for eight full minutes, contemplating your entire tafkid in life because the bottle you want is either:

Behind five other bottles

Frozen solid

Or mysteriously warm in only the upper half

It’s mamash a mussar haskel:
This world is sheker, except maybe Diet Coke.

? THE ICE MACHINE

I don’t know who maintains the ice machine, but it’s clearly someone who believes in bitachon.
Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, and either way no one is stressed about it except you, the thirsty bochur who just needs ice “liderech klal.”

? THE AISLES — A TRUE GALUS EXPERIENCE

The aisles are arranged with absolutely zero logic:

Batteries next to windshield fluid

Phone chargers next to greeting cards

A random display of sunglasses in a place that sees sunlight twice a year

Classic 7-Eleven ruchnius lesson:
Don’t look for meaning where there isn’t any. Just grab your drink and move on.

? THE CASHIER INTERACTION

You approach the counter, holding your two items like a Yom Kippur machzor — with trembling seriousness.

The cashier looks at you with the same expression your rebbi gives when you answer a question extremely confidently… and extremely incorrectly.

He scans your drink with Olympic-level minimal effort and then says the famous universal 7-Eleven phrase:

“You good, boss?”

Suddenly, your self-esteem jumps three levels.
Yes.
You are good.
You are the boss.
Hakol b’tovah.

? THE PARKING LOT — MISHNAH IN AVOS LEVEL CHAOS

The parking lot is basically a live-action puzzle game:

Cars at diagonals

Cars on angles that would make a geometry teacher cry

One guy parked on top of the curb like he climbed Har Sinai

You don’t “park” here — you negotiate.

⭐ BOTTOM LINE

Is this 7-Eleven fancy?
No.
Is it normal?
Also no.
But does it deliver what every bochur ultimately needs?
A cold drink, a quick reset, and a story to tell the chevra? Absolutely.

This place is not a store —
It’s a chapter in your personal biography.”

“I like this gas station cause they the only one in area who has separate hoses for each grade of gas, meaning when i fill up super im getting super from very beginning, not half a gallon of regular left in the hose from previous fill up.”

“The amount of people that come in and out of here is crazy. The deli menu is good from the cold sandwiches to the burgers to the gyro to everything. They even have Fat sandwiches. The coffee is always fresh and the staff is very nice and always smiling. They just added a juice bar and everything is made fresh there. Its very clean and price friendly.”

“Good service. No drama. Leave pennies just in case someone is short a few cents.Buttered roll and Vitamin Water is $5 at this time. Not 7-Eleven's fault. Simply a sign of the times...”

“It's where I get my meds from. They're not that bad when it comes to waiting, and the reason I have express pass. I try to get my meds early in the day or late evening when the place is almost empty.
There's always plenty of parking, and the place is always nice and clean. The employees are always happy to help. Especially when you have to talk to the pharmacist. I always get great feedback from them.”
