“I went here a couple times, and the staff had always been extremely sweet. They always have unique pieces that go well with everyday wear. I absolutely love this store and all the vibes. It is also VERY affordable, an absolute gem. Will definitely come back every chance I get!!”

“These guys genuinely know vintage. They lived it and understand the backstory of every piece in their store.

In an industry of fast fashion and clout chasing, this spot is the opposite. Go in and talk with them. Super kind, approachable and knowledgeable. That’s rare.

Store is a thoughtfully curated selection of items with zero judgment or pressure towards consumers. Great place to browse, reminisce and find the right nostalgic item.”

“We only had a couple minutes, but this place is so well curated that it didn't matter! Scored a fantastic Isaac Mizrahi coat for my son and a sweet black United Colors of Benetton sweatshirt just as they were closing!”

“As NY as it gets! A joyful experience. Staff is super friendly and relax, the stuff available there is quite interesting, of very good quality and prices are spectacular . When we visited, Robert was playing the piano and singing. The cold and rainy day turned in to happiest (¿hippiest?) shopping experience. If I lived in NY I would definitely buy my furniture there!”

“Such a joyful experience, in stark contrast to the usual experience of trying on pants, especially vintage denim. Ended up with my holy grail denim and comfortable stan rays, which had evaded me until now.”

“I could spend hours here. Always so much to look through and new inventory what seems like every time I stop in. Love the music and old school feel of the place. It’s a nice little escape. Always find something! But it’s nice to just even come here to browse and look at all sorts of different antiques. Definitely one of my favorite antique shops in the area. Prices seem fair for what most of the items are and jewelry is also fair. Love it here.”

“10/10 experience. I’ve never shopped for clothes for myself before and had a lot of anxiety going in. Leo was super helpful, knowledgeable, kind, patient, and understanding. He’s super chill and instantly knew which clothes would fit the aesthetic I wanted to go for. If you go to this place and Leo is there, you won’t be disappointed. Trust me. Thank you Leo. Hope to see you again!”

“This store is amazing! Always a great selection, super low prices, and the staff is incredibly sweet. Made a few purchases a few days ago and they let me know the profits that day were going to breast cancer awareness. Love their mission!”

“I discovered this shop in the East Village and I love shopping the curated beautiful items they have. It’s now my favorite place to visit and the owner and staff are so helpful ❤️”

“Found some amazing vintage clothes at a reasonable price. The place can feel a little overwhelming and get extremely packed. But it can be an explorative experience with friends to find goodies. They do charge a credit card fee, so bring cash if you don't want to pay that. They also sell bags to carry your purchase for $2, so bring your own in case you bought a haul of goodies.”

“I absolutely love this store. I recently started learning how to sew, so I decided to buy a few different blouses and dresses because I want to redesign them to my liking. However, I didn’t wanna spend a lot of money so I went to two different thrift stores in New York City and it just so happens that I came across this one and I love the store because all of the clothing is so inexpensive thank you so much and the kindness is really nice and the sore too.”

“Well, for $120 my daughter and girlfriend got a black skirt, a pair of silver high heels, a fluffy red jacket, a sequined black party dress, and a red sport coat. They loved it. Like any other used clothing store you have to hunt and search.”

4.4 Superb87 Reviews

“Walked past it and had to go in. Some beautifully curated items in there. My word of advice, go to the back room and search for the hidden gems. Found a vintage coach devon bag in a beautiful color in gorgeous condition. Price was reasonable, as it is vintage luxury. The owners were so so sweet and kind, if I ever come back to New York I know the first place I’m going to.”

“Very happy we reached out to for donating our sectional. Its important to me to pass on to those in need as I was at one time.
Pick up scheduling was smooth and the driver handled the furniture with care and very personable.”

“this location gets a lot of NWT sample sale leftovers, which can be a good thing but often oversaturates inventory. their prices are very hit and miss, but this is one of the better and larger housing works locations”

“East Village Thrift Shop in New York is the kind of place that makes you walk in for “just a quick look” and then somehow walk out forty minutes later holding things you did not know you needed but now cannot live without. The selection is surprisingly good, especially for a shop that does not take itself too seriously. You can find everything from genuinely cool vintage pieces to the kind of weird little items that make thrifting fun in the first place.

The prices are fair for the neighborhood, which in the East Village is basically a small miracle. You are not paying luxury boutique prices for secondhand finds, and you can actually walk out feeling like you scored something instead of feeling lightly robbed. The staff also deserves credit for being helpful without hovering, which is exactly the balance you want when you are digging through racks like a determined raccoon on a mission.

Is everything perfectly organized? No. Will you occasionally have to dig a little? Absolutely. But that is part of the charm. This is a thrift shop, not a museum, and the slightly chaotic vibe is what makes finding a great piece feel like winning a small lottery.

Overall, East Village Thrift Shop delivers exactly what it should: fun, affordable, and genuinely interesting thrifting in one of the most entertaining neighborhoods in the city. If you like a little attitude with your shopping and a lot of personality in your finds, this place easily earns five stars.”

“I first visited this shop many years ago, back when the store was much smaller. The items aren’t cheap, but knowing that all the proceeds go to this charity made perfect sense—it really opened my eyes!

Visiting again after all these years brought back so many wonderful memories. Such a lovely experience, and I’ll definitely be back again!”

“Really love this place. The prices are great and it's in a good location. I always find something I like. Today I got these great biker boots. It's affordable, ranging from $5 to about $50. My boots where $26 size 7. I also got a beautiful pink jacket/ coat like 2 weeks ago. If you spend some time and look around you will find gems.”

“Great place !abundant, styles of clothes more than enough styles to be good looking. Excellent and knowledgeable guys to help you find out what you want. Great price, highly recommended.”

“Ditto is a beautiful store that is well organized and staffed with lovely volunteers. It is a great place to donate clothes, household items, jewelry and books. However, the prices are somewhat inconsistent and the new items they carry are rather expensive for a thrift shop.”

“I love this Beacon’s Closet. They have a great selection of everything from clothes to accessories and little trinkets. The staff are friendly and helpful. I had some questions when I came in and they were very thoughtful with their answers. The music in here is fun and the store is very clean. Thanks!”

“Interesting items, mix of different brands, not just fast fashion stuff but some nicer items too. Ladies who work there are very kind. They have a dressing room but the door is small so not easy to try items on. I would return.”

“Thank you so much, Goodwil employee. I forgot my bag right next to the shelf and left the store. I called the and let them know. I'm so lucky that one of the employees noticed it and took it. All my documents and personal belongings are safe and sound. Thank you so much! I was afraid it would be stolen ?”

“Love this location! Friendly staff, beautiful selection, and unique pieces. The store is small but intimate. Everything is hanging up on shelves or hanging properly on the racks. I prefer this store than the Buffalo Exchange next door.”

“SARC has some beautiful vintage pieces and more. It’s in a great location and I cannot wait to go back. I just brought some fly boots for $14. Her prices are amazing as well. If you love thrifting and finding unique items that you won’t see other people wearing (such as myself) please go check SARC out!”

“Probably the best thrift store around and they do such incredible work supporting such an important cause! Good amount of clothing selection to choose from and in the lower level they have books, kitchenware, home goods, and some great furniture pieces. They also have a book sale where you can fill a target cloth bag full of books for only $5! Would definitely recommend checking this place out and supporting them!”

“Secondhand shopping is my favorite thing to do; I categorically do not wear factory-new clothes, outside of intimates. The West Village Housing Works is, IMO, the best secondhand store in New York City. I have gotten so many treasures from here over the years, and every time I pop in, I see something that tempts me.

What I enjoy about this Housing Works is that it's curated. This is not the kind of hard labor thrift shopping, where you can find a $25 designer item after sorting through 20 stained things. The price point is higher than cavernous thrift stores packed with merchandise, because the staff and volunteers do the labor of selecting things that are stain-free and not too worn.

My favorite designer is Milly, and I almost always see something Milly any time I go in.

Most importantly, Emmy and the staff at Housing Works are lovely; they clearly really enjoy their jobs, and the vibes in the store are so nice. There have been multiple times that I've been in the store and have seen customers chatting with one another or encouraging each other to buy the fabulous thing they're trying on. It's a treat to shop in an environment where other people start conversations with you, and there's a shared love of a very good find.”
