“I recently completed the New Mexico concealed carry course through Omni Arms / Desert Thunder Academy, and I couldn’t be more impressed with the overall experience. The program is extremely well-structured, starting with a convenient online portion that I was able to take entirely on my own schedule. The material was engaging and easy to follow, and it held my attention enough that I completed all the modules and tests in a single day. Being able to work at my own pace, whether at home or at work, made the process both flexible and enjoyable.
The in-person portion at the shooting range was equally impressive. The instructors provided both .45 caliber semi-auto pistols and .45 caliber revolvers at no extra charge, which allowed me to qualify with the highest caliber option in both firearm types. Thanks to this, I’m now qualified to carry either style of handgun—.45 caliber and any caliber below it—which was a huge bonus.
Jake Melidones, the head instructor, is exceptionally knowledgeable. He was extremely well-informed and able to answer every question thrown his way with confidence and clarity. Jake and his staff maintained firm safety standards and clear expectations throughout the course, yet they balanced that professionalism with patience, approachability, and a sense of fun. They even incorporated a friendly target competition toward the end of the day, which added a great mix of challenge, entertainment, and practical learning.
The course was affordable, well-run, and genuinely enjoyable from start to finish. I highly recommend it to anyone considering a concealed carry class in New Mexico. I haven’t had the chance to shop at Omni Arms yet, but I definitely plan to—because based on how they treat their students, it’s clear they value their customers and hold themselves to a high level of respect and professionalism.”
