Hours: The Capital District Center for Independence, Inc. was established in 1979 to promote independent living for people with disabilities. The Center provides a wide variety of services, including advocacy, self-help instruction, and assistance with day-to-day community participation. They employ a peer-based approach to help individuals develop self-determination, decision-making, and self-advocacy skills. The Center also works to educate the public and inform public officials to foster improvements in programs that serve people with disabilities. Clients have praised the Center's staff for their prompt, kind, and efficient service. The housing specialist, in particular, has been commended for their dedication in helping a severely developmentally disabled individual secure housing. The Center has also been credited with helping a client achieve their goal of living independently, after spending 3.5 years in a nursing home.
