Noisiest gym in America. They play loud bad Mexican and latin pop music at the highest decibel, which is very bad for ones hearing...You have to wear earplugs. It is truly maddening. The stupidity of the staff that can work in that blaring bad music all day.

Your dumbbell selection is scarce (lots of broken ones or just limited selection in general). Not influenced by gym traffic, found this during a not so busy time of day. I ripped the gum off w my barehand cause I’m a brute, but this is disappointing. This gym used to be fire.

Best gym in the Astoria area. Would never go to a planet fitness after being here. There are a lot of free weights, including 5-6 squat racks, a deadlifting platform, enough machines and a nice area to stretch. it really doesn't get better for the price. Would totally recommend!

Worst retro ever. No hair drier or paper towels in bathrooms. Uncultured guests not racking weights back with no one to check them. Girls take weights away from racks to another part of the gym and never return them back. Nobody cares. Feels like I’m back in Dominican Republic.

This location is and has been in need of a serious shift in management, ownership, looking from now to past reviews. The biggest issue being hours and opening. Despite having customers phone numbers and emails, this location will merely put a sign on the door to tell you if they’re closing on a given day. You walked to the gym on a given day looking for a workout? SOL my friend, they’re closed for whatever reason the sign says. If you get up at 5am hoping to get a workout in, this location has a 1/2 chance in being open on time. I am writing this review after waiting 20 minutes at 5am with other customers for them to open - nobody showed up. Secondary issues include cleanliness and rule enforcement. It’s understandable that this is a NYC gym - but some times it looks downright sloppy. The only reason I keep my membership is the location but at this point, I would rather run miles to another gym at least knowing they’d be open on time.

I have had the opportunity to visit various fitness establishments such as Blink Fitness, Executive Fitness, Xtreme Fitness, and Planet Fitness, and I must say that Retro Fitness stands out in terms of its expansive and well-appointed facilities. They have recently upgraded a significant portion of their exercise equipment, incorporating top-of-the-line machines to enhance the gym's offerings. What truly sets this gym apart is its spacious layout, complete with amenities like a sizable movie theater featuring cardio bikes, dedicated areas for deadlifts, multiple squat stations, and various bench setups. In essence, Retro Fitness caters to a wide range of fitness needs. From a financial perspective, Retro Fitness also excels, with a competitive pricing structure of $26.11 per month, coupled with a reasonable $50 yearly maintenance fee. When you calculate the combined cost, averaging approximately $30.27 per month, it becomes evident that Retro Fitness offers excellent value for the services provided. Comparing this to other local options like BQE Fitness and gyms in Long Island City, Retro Fitness consistently offers a superior cost-to-benefit ratio. Moreover, the gym's staff exhibit a friendly and helpful demeanor, complemented by the presence of a well-equipped smoothie bar. I have found their maintenance and repair services to be notably efficient, ensuring that malfunctioning equipment is promptly addressed—a notable departure from the lengthy delays encountered at certain other fitness establishments. As a suggestion, it would be advantageous if Retro Fitness were to consider expanding its presence to the Jackson Heights area, particularly given the less-than-ideal public transportation options along Northern Boulevard. In summary, I wholeheartedly recommend giving Retro Fitness a try; it is a fitness establishment that is sure to exceed your expectations.

I can't complain about this location yet... but if you go during peak hours you will have a tough time getting in any Olympic weight movements... everyone is in there lifting the same weight 135-225lbs. There's not enough plates for the amount of stations. I went today and had an empty squat rack but had no plates to use lol.... I don't think I ever experienced that in my life at a gym.... so I appreciate the work everyone puts in.... but I want some too lol.... anyway, I've been off peak and was able to get a great workout. Gotta navigate accordingly

Been coming here for over 8 years. Left because I got tired of how overcrowded the gym has become. Not bad but could be better.

Recently relocated to queens and was so happy to see it has a retro fitness near my new place. What I walked into was nothing compared to all the retro fitness clubs I've been to.Re-rack policy is non existent, the barbells and equipment are screaming to be replaced. Some of the pull down bars and equipment is kept on a side wall that looks like it's seen better days.On another note the floor is literally tearing apart, in some parts of the gym.I saw a young guy doing dead lifts in the middle of the gym, away from the dead lift pads. No other gym would have allowed that to happened, it's just damaging the floors even more and the equipment. If corporate is reading this, please let us know where the " yearly annual fees for club improvements go?"If you ever want to see what a severely neglected gym looks like, just come to this one.

Current member and love going to the gym but my only complaint is the temperature inside and the air cooling system. Some days the air conditioning feels fine and works. But, there any many many many days that it is extremely hot and muggy inside. It is extremely uncomfortable for a fitness environment and feels like you are working out inside a sauna. Only turning on the overhead fans does not work, it only moves around the hot air. There have even been a few times I had to end my workout early due to the severe discomfort of how hot it was inside the facility. This could be very unsafe to have the place be this hot inside when people are working out, you don't want anyone to faint. I recommend having a stable air temperature inside the facility, and AC on while the temperature increases outside! It's not fun playing guessing game while going to the gym wondering if the AC will be on or not...

As a new member/newbie to working out. Retro has one of the best in-house equipments amongst all the gym around. The machines are all functional and kept in a proper way. The atmosphere are welcoming and friendly. Staffs are great and very knowledgeable about the gym and how-to. Thank you for making it all happened.
