Last Monday, June 13 2022, I attended a recital of the spring class of Jazz music students, under the tutelage of Carol McLaughlin. I decided to Yelp the event and was surprised to see that the Community Music School of Buffalo has not changed their address here. So my intention with this post is twofold: to let people know about the availability of jazz classes for all ages at CMS; to make the new location evident. It was a delightful evening, held indoors this year, and included a mostly solo piece by Mr. McLaughlin. The first link is a brief clip of Watermelon Man by the class. In the "read more" section there is a longer video of Carol McLaughlin's performance. The second link is the home page of the Community Music School's new location.

A great school where talented & dedicated CMS staff do what they love and do best -- create music with their students. They offer a variety of individual and group lessons and also a non-auditioned community chorus. ??? Their campus just recently moved (upgraded) to a larger location with large off-street parking and grassy knolls for social-distanced rehearsing/congregating outside. Large front porch overlooks Buffalo neighborhood, and large back deck and green multi-use space. Touchscreen security system for building entry. Multiple spacious lobby/waiting areas, big restrooms, staircases, and elevator access. Many indoor offices, classrooms, and rehearsal rooms.

The music school had a new (old) home! Modern updates, nice rooms, 28 pianos, music library....what's not to like. They have something for everyone here. Find a class, learn a new instrument. Enrich yourself at the music school. The new address is 217 E. Delevan Avenue. They are having a grand re-opening July 17. Check it out and maybe sign up for singing lessons :)

My wife was interested in taking voice lessons, so I came here to get her setup in the school. It seems like a great non-profit academy with everything from instruments lessons, voice, choir and more. The prices are very reasonable for lessons, although you do need to sign up as a member to attend their programs, which comes with a $30 fee. However, currently they do have an offer where if you check in on Yelp you get $20 off if you're a new student. Overall, I found the staff pleasant and the programs enticing -- if you're looking to expand your musical knowledge or even buy a gift certificate from someone, check out the Community Music School!

I've taken piano and voice lessons at CMS at both the Elmwood and Tonawanda locations. Great teachers and great community presence!

The teachers are outstanding. It is obvious they genuinely care about the student. They want the children to grow and feel good about themselves with no pressure to be perfect. I believe this is what motivates the kids to work harder. My granddaughter looks forward to every lesson. She is beginning to set her own expectation for success, yet remains focused on enjoyment with each practice. Thank you to all of the teachers who enrich the lives of our children through music.

Initially, I was afraid that, being an adult who wanted to continue my studies in music would be seen as pushing the envelope. Community Music School took the time and care that it takes to make me feel comfortable as an adult learner in an environment where many of the students are still very young. The Staff. They're great and easy to get along with. The prices are higher than I'd like but this is the cost of lessons these days. Faculty. Buffalo is the beneficiary of a teaching staff as competent as any at Julliard, Oberlin, or Eastman. Many of the teaching staff received their degrees at these schools. NOTE: The school has a pretty rigorous cancellation policy. Make sure to follow it accordingly.
