Room clean, but tub doesn't hold water, sink doesn't drain, heat not working, fake fireplace not working.

A historic hotel located in downtown Buffalo, and is credited as being designed by the first professional female architect in America. The hotel could use some updates. The bed was rock solid and tough to sleep on, but it got easier the second night. The electric fireplace was a nice touch. Bathroom sink and toilet are not great, but the shower/tub combo is good for a bath. No mini fridge in the standard room. Also you’ll need to use street parking or the garage (both cost $) but there is plenty of it. It is located near the Light Rail line and a number of bus lines which is great for getting around, but we found ourselves doing more in Elmwood than the area we were staying in.There’s some underutilized spaces in the building, like the old brewery and lounge rooms which are currently vacant. There is a coffee shop/cafe on site which provides a 10 percent discount to hotel customers. Wifi is not strong enough to stream, and rooms have traditional cable.Overall, it wasn’t bad, and the staff was nice. The hotel could use some upgrades and provide customers with more amenities that make the price feel like it is worth paying for.

The hotel is beautiful and I was glad to see how well it has been restored. However I was disappointed to learn that both the piano bar and the other restaurant were closed several months ago. My partner and I had done research on the Hotel and were excited to visit both, and spend more time in the hotel itself by extension. When I booked, continental breakfast was advertised, however upon check in (the very kind) front desk staff person informed us that there is no breakfast since the restaurant has been closed for several months. Additionally, the heat in our room wasn't working, and the fireplace - that I upgraded the room in order to have - gave off no heat. The room was super nice and very clean, but it was disappointing that we were not able to explore more of the hotel because these bars were closed and unaccessible.

Upon entering the hotel you immediately notice a mix of worn pieces and furniture from restoration hardware from 10 years ago. The hotel is not well kept up, with stains, patching, and wall blemishes throughout. My first room had stained furniture and sheets, cobwebs, discolored ceiling, chipped paint and a broken heater. There was a recurring rumbling one could feel in the bed from some mechanical system. The room I was moved to was similar, although the heater worked and the sheets were clean. Wifi was open and marked for security abuse by third party providers. Not a three star experience and not as nice as other reviews suggest.

We recently stayed at Hotel at the Lafayette, and while the room and amenities met our expectations, we encountered a significant issue that negatively affected our experience. Before our arrival, we were reassured by multiple members of the front desk staff that it would be fine to park in front of the hotel overnight. Regrettably, we were issued a parking ticket by the city, leading to an unexpected and upsetting expense. We understand that the hotel may not have control over city parking regulations, but the misinformation from the staff regarding parking policies directly impacted our stay and overall perception of Hotel at the Lafayette. We recommend that the hotel staff be better informed about parking rules and clearly and accurately communicate them to guests to prevent similar situations in the future.Despite this incident, the rest of our stay was pleasant. The rooms were clean and comfortable, and the location was convenient for our needs. However, this parking issue has left us hesitant to return or recommend Hotel at the Lafayette without assurance that communication and guest service have improved. We hope that this feedback is taken constructively, and that Hotel at the Lafayette can address these concerns to enhance the experience for future guests.

Neat old hotel with character and incredibly helpful and friendly staff in a perfect location. They also had old historic photos and info plaques on the hotel itself and surrounding history, which I loved. It's also short walk from Key Bank Center and the Amtrak Exchange Street station and an even quicker walk to the light rail. Also in the case of the city basically shutting down from a neverending lake effect snow storm, there's a market open just a block away where you can get snacks and provisions. Bonus tip, you can also turn your sink into a makeshift cooler, by supplying your bathroom sink with ice from the ice machine on your floor.

This is a nice hotel, nice room and bar, but walls are thin and wifi didn't work. Service desk had no solution which was disappointing. I don't know if this was a one off, but it affects those that have traveled across the border.

This is our fave hotel in Buffalo. It’s close to everything. The rooms are great. The price is right and the building is gorgeous! The property was designed by pioneer female architect Louis Bethune. It was loving restored years ago and has original lobby, ballrooms, fireplaces and a huge bar. It’s a national treasure. They are planning on closing it - to make it a condo. I pray they don’t destroy all the public spaces that they spent all that money restoring!

Awesome room, very comfy beds! (Lafayette dm me what beds you use, I wanna purchase one haha)Good location. Great service from staff. 10/10 would stay again. For those "content creators" the room has a mirror and fireplace along with a giant window by the shower. Pretty nice spot to create.
