About Massachusetts Avenue Project

The Massachusetts Avenue Project (MAP) is a community-focused organization located on Buffalo’s West Side, dedicated to improving local food access and providing educational opportunities. It operates as an urban farm that sells fresh vegetables and fruits at local farmers markets, supporting efforts to eliminate the food desert in Buffalo and promote real, healthy food. The farm is also a drop-off site for the City of Buffalo's residential food scrap collection program, encouraging composting and sustainable practices. MAP offers a variety of programs, including job and leadership training for low-income youth, gardening workshops, cooking classes, and seasonal farm stands. The cooking series, created in partnership with Lexington Co-op, has been highly praised for its well-planned, enjoyable experience, with friendly staff and a beautiful kitchen. Participants receive recipes and discounts, making the classes a valued activity. The organization also provides opportunities for community engagement through renting farm and kitchen space, hosting events, and supporting local vendors. In addition to its educational and community programs, MAP promotes the importance of public gardens and greenery, which help keep the city cooler and more vibrant. Visitors often enjoy seeing resident chickens, beekeeping demonstrations, baby cows, and other farm activities. Overall, MAP is appreciated for its contributions to community wellbeing, local food support, and environmental sustainability, making it a vital part of Buffalo’s West Side.
