Zipcar charged us an inflated amount of $250 for extremely filthy compact car on Christmas day. Every window, side view mirror and back windshield had so much grime caked up on it, our vision was obstructed. Took us about 3 hours to scrub the vehicle down which caused us valuable driving time. Before we even got into car we contacted a CS rep which requested that we go get the car detailed and save the receipt. Who has time to manage your fleet on a major holiday? Especially if we are trying to watch our kids open gifts in the early morning which we missed. We requested a full refund and no one has gotten back to us as of yet. Never use this service or app! They have no compassion for human beings. We are now proud members of another car share called TURO. Nicer vehicles, better app capabilities and much cleaner cars.

Zipcar is not worth the hassle. If it works ok, everything is fine, but more often than not, there are issues. Every step of the way is difficult with them. Most recently, I've now been on hold for more than 2 hours trying to cancel my account....

Most days when we rent a Zipcar we are moderately happy with it. But today has been the worst day yet. My husband reserved a zipcar days ago. Today, as he approached the parking lot, the car wasn't there and he found out that they had cancelled his reservation without letting him know. He tried to reserve another car at a lot twenty blocks away. He gets there and the car has a flat tire. The gas cards often don't work, and even though we've been reimbursed for every time we had to put the charge on our card, it's still stressful. Cars very often smell terrible and are dirty (there were FOOTPRINTS on the windshield of one we rented last week). The price they charge doesn't match the service they provide.

Zipcar is not only a rip off and charges too much. They charged my card $75 for a $45 parking ticket that was received a full two days after I'd already ended my trip. The car was a street parking car and the operator told me I could park anywhere. I parked in a legal spot, but they simply didn't move it for street cleaning and nailed me with the charge. I do not recommend anyone use them and I certainly never will again, opting instead to use other car share services. Their customer service is difficult to get a hold of and they won't allow you to speak directly to member services. Its incredibly shady and a rip off.

Yes I live In Rochester I rent a car every month the car are is either dirty or damage you call to speak to someone in customer services most of them don't speak clear english. They don't even offer you money back. Most of the car are rented my college student. They told me they were going to give me money back they never did. They don't keep the car up to date.

I'm one of the 33% of Buffalonians who doesn't own a car, and it's by choice! People think you HAVE to own a car in Buffalo, but I'm proof that you don't. I walk or take the bus to work everyday, and I don't have to worry about car maintenance, car payments, car insurance, moving my car on the street every single day, or driving in icy conditions. People think, you have to own a car in Buffalo because how else are you supposed to get around in the winter? Really? You want to be driving around all the time in the ice and snow? Have fun! Sorry for the long intro, but it connects nicely with Zipcar. Even though I get along fine in Buffalo there are still times that are more convenient to have a car. Example, giant trips to Wegman's, Member Appreciation Days at the Lexington Co-op, visiting family in Ransomville (good ole Ransomville! Gotta love small town names), or picking up fresh veggies from Porter Farms. To cut it short, here are the costs: $25 to join (one-time) $52.20/year to be a member $10.33/hour to use a car, $11.48/hour if you want the truck or minivan. But they have a discounted rate on Monday through Thursday that you can rent a car from 6:30pm to 8:30am and it is $37.87 (same price if you are getting the truck or minivan). So, you can calculate the costs yourself to see if you'd save money using Zipcar compared to owning a car. Side note, you might also want to pay $9/month so that if you get into an accident you don't have to pay the $1000 deductible. But before you get that, check to see if you have Auto Rental Collision Damage Waiver as a perk on your credit card. If you do, use that credit card for all your rentals and opt out of the Zipcar damage waiver. If you do that, VISA or whoever your CC company is will waive the deductible (assuming you were driving safely of course).
