“This shop is an easy five star based on their inventory, staff knowledge and overall great atmosphere to shop in. Willis Hobbies has been around MIneola since 1949. Not only have they been a fabric of the community but they always show their commitment to Mineola through their participation in Village events. If you can think of it.... You'll find it here. Plenty of electric cars, models (that go up to 2,000 pieces), lots of model trains and trains-accessories. The beauty of the shop is that the team here are experts. Depending what you're looking for will determine who you speak with. There is value shopping in a store that understands your needs and advices you accordingly. They always set up race cars at the MIneola Street to become more involved and engaged with the residents. In summation... there are good people here. KUDOs top the team at Willis Hobbies.”

“No weekend is complete without a run to 5 Below. It's always for something that's needed like a phone charger cord and then I wind up seeing so many other things that I feel like I must have. This location is usually pretty well stocked and the staff is friendly. Every once in a while they're short handed up front but they seem to make it work. On this trip I got pillows and a throw for my guest bedroom because they were super cute and affordable. I also bought another bookcase/organizer because I used one of theirs for my pop up shop set up and it works really great. Even though some things are more than $5 most of my items were actually $5. If you have a very small child, I'm warning you they have lots of cute toys and a lot of candy especially near the checkout so either prep them before you go in or don't bring them.”

The staff is extremely knowledgeable and take their time to explain the products, along with helping customers troubleshoot. The online store (Trainworld) is my goto place for buying all things trains. They ship quickly, prices are competitive, and they stand behind the products they sell. Trainland continues to excel at providing that in person experience in the age where brick and mortar hobby stores continue to close. Highly recommend visiting and buying something there. They have everything from the Thomas trains for kids to the extremely high-end hobbyist quality products.”

From Transformers to Gundam, from Power Rangers to Ultraman, from One Piece to Jujutsu Kaisen, they’ve quite literally have it all. “Excellent customer service! I ordered online for a store pick up and when I got there, I was helped or spoken to by three employees. One told me that someone will be with me shortly, one started the laminating machine for me, & the third one just simply told me no worries about something I mentioned. I usually have anxieties around back to school time and having to deal with lines can make me feel worse. This time, completely opposite of what I used to experience. I might go back soon just to use the laminating machine.”

I'm happy we only found this place now because I think we'd be broke if we found it years ago lol. “Heard about this store from the LI Teachers group on FB. Greatest little find. Store has teacher supplies throughout but most of it is concentrated in the back. The woman at the register is extremely helpful. If you can’t find something, just ask her, she will let you know if they have any more in the back or if the are ordering more supplies. They also laminate anything you buy for free. Plus teachers get a 15% discount. Great store and customer service.”
