“Brought a pair of white Vera Wang dress slacks originally $49.99 for $29.99 with the 30% off!!! They are not too wide... I hate these oversized pants legs these days! Woo hoo! It's communion, shower, graduation time.... I have a bit dressier of an outfit now!!”
“I wanted to leave an honest review because I’ve had mixed feelings about this location over time. There was an employee named Amber who used to work here that made racist comments and was rude to customers, which honestly made me hesitant about returning. However, I do appreciate that the situation was taken seriously and that she was ultimately fired because of her behavior. It made me feel better knowing accountability was taken seriously.
Since then, I’ve also noticed changes in management. While I’m happy with the outcome regarding that situation, I personally preferred the previous management style. The former manager seemed to have a stronger handle on the store overall and created a better atmosphere. With the newer management, I’ve sometimes gotten the impression that interactions with employees can come across as unfair or a bit cocky at times, which affects the environment of the store.
That being said, I’ve also learned more about how Plato’s Closet works as a business. A lot of people come in expecting to sell everything, but it’s important to remember that this is a resale store with limited inventory space, especially since it’s one of the only Plato’s Closet locations on Long Island. They can only take what fits their current inventory needs, trends, and season.
I also learned pretty quickly that when you sell clothes to any resale business, the payout is usually going to feel low compared to what you originally paid or what you think the item is worth. That’s simply how buy-and-resell businesses operate because they still need room to profit when they resell the items. If you want full value for your clothes, selling independently on apps like Depop, Poshmark, or Facebook Marketplace may be the better option — but that also usually takes more time, effort, and patience.
Overall, while I’ve had concerns in the past and still have some opinions about the current management approach, I can appreciate that improvements were made in certain areas, and I think it’s important for people to understand how the resale process works before going in.”
“I recently lost weight so none of my suits fit me anymore. I needed a new suit in a pinch for a wedding. I was able to pick a new suit day and have it tailored same day. Great selection, helpful, knowledgeable and friendly staff. Couldnt have been happier and can’t thank these guys enough.”
