“A small, thoughtfully curated bookstore that was a wonderful discovery

On our drive back from Pennsylvania toward Niagara Falls, we were looking for an interesting independent bookstore where we could stop along the way. We found this place in Corning, and I’m very glad we did.

First, it is located in a particularly beautiful and enjoyable part of Corning, so the stop itself is worthwhile. But what makes this bookstore special is what you find inside.

This is not a huge bookstore with endless shelves, nor does it try to be. The collection is relatively small but very thoughtfully curated. If your interests or work involve EDIA, Indigenous thought and writing, accessibility, social justice, or the experiences and perspectives of equity-deserving and equity-seeking communities, there is a remarkable amount to discover here for a bookstore of this size. The selection feels intentional rather than simply accumulated.

I also appreciated that this is the kind of independent bookstore where conversation is still part of the experience. You can talk meaningfully with the people there about books and ideas, suggest titles they might consider adding, and feel that your recommendations are genuinely welcome.

And it isn’t only books. There are cards, lovely and unusual earrings, gifts, and other small things worth taking the time to explore. There is even a very cute resident cat adding some personality to the experience.

If you judge bookstores primarily by square footage or the sheer number of titles, this may not be what you are looking for. But if you appreciate careful curation, inclusive perspectives, interesting conversations, and the particular character that only a good independent bookstore can have, this place is absolutely worth visiting.

It turned what was supposed to be a stop along our drive into one of those small discoveries that make a road trip better.”

“I love studying here! whenever I'm home for the summer and I have work to do or years to study for, I always come here. It is very well lit and quiet. Not that many people here over the summer. The hours for the library are usually 8am-4pm in June and July. Everyone is friendly and helpful!”
