“The people working here are super friendly and helpful.I needed to get some plywood for a DIY project and had 0 clue as to the differences between the different types. I called them up and told the employee that picked up what I was looking to build - he took the time to explain what would be best for my setup as well as why.Also I ended up doing delivery since I couldn't fit the plywood in my SUV. There was a mix up with the address (my fault for not double checking paperwork). Thankfully, instead of just going back to the store, they kept calling me until they were finally able to reach me (because of course my phone was on silent - I only happened to see my phone on their fourth attempt). The driver/delivery person was also very friendly (do you see a theme here with friendly employees :) - he unloaded the plywood to where I asked for it to be placed.Pricing is also at least on par, if not better, than what you would find at the "big name" brands.Between the great pricing and excellent customer service, I will definitely come back here for any future lumber needs.”

“Really good hardware stores, are more than a nice-to-have, they're a necessity. Located on Main St, parking can be difficult at times but that's the biggest drawback. Goldberg's has just about every hardware necessity you could need; paint, tools, keys, wood glue, they got it all. Service is great as everyone working here is family and this actually cares about what they're doing. I didn't have any big questions when I was there, but I heard them helping others and they clearly know what they're talking about. Prices are reasonable.I'll take this any day over sorting through a gigantic warehouse of shit with people who don't want to be there. Local hardware stores are a godsend, and this is no exception.”

“My husband calls this the Home Depot that time forgot. Old fashioned service at its best. Every time we go it's clean, employees approach us to help us, people are friendly, and they have what we need. Today I did a return that was entirely hassle-free. The last time my husband and I went an employee spent 15 minutes with us helping us find the right-sized screw for a project. The time before an employee walked me to my destination because he wasn't 100% sure where something was and he wanted to make sure I found it. @HomeDepot corporate, if you ever read your Yelp reviews I hope you see this and give all your Hawthorne employees a raise and the managers a bonus. @Hawthorne Home Depot manager, leaving you a message with your manager on duty now...”

“Today I broke a pole that my wife uses to hang her laundry to dry.There were about 6 things on it when I broke it.This was about 4:55 PM.I too the pieces and jumped into my car and drove there.The lights were on but the hours sign said closed at 5 PM.The time was 5:04 PM.I banged on the door and someone opened it.They told that they were closed.I told them about the pole.They get a pole for me and I paid for it.THE IRVINGTON HARDWARE store is GREAT.I have used them many times in the past and always was happy.This time I WAS VERY, VERY, VERY, VERY HAPPY.They are a great store.I recommend them totally.”

“Herb Lack Paints is a Nyack family owned business. Joseph along with his wife and son are a fixture in the Village Nyack business district.. Don't be fooled by the Paints they have have a lot more than paints. They have a great supply of Benjamin Moore paint, and do custom blending as well. They also repair screens there, and any copy of a key they have made for us always works. Their inventory includes everything from Gorilla glue to snow shovels. The family is incredibly helpful. Highly recommend a visit.”

Note that they carry several different lines, in the ok, good, better, schemes. And many carry lifetime warranties.But electrically or air-powered tools, which of course are more susceptible to requiring service, often only have a 90-day warranty. For occasional use as a DIYer, these are often perfectly adequate. And optionally you can buy an extended warranty if you think you'll be subjecting the tool to heavy use.Service at the White Plains store also varies in quality. Sometimes I've been helped by employees who were knowledgeable, courteous, and professional,other times by ones who had no ideas about their products or how to interact with a fellow human. If the person can't help, ask if they can get a manager or another employee who knows the particulars of the category you're looking for.”

“Dumont Hardware is always my first stop. Bill is knowledgeable, helpful, and usually has what you need in stock, including some stuff you cannot find elsewhere. The prices are reasonable. As an example, I needed large washers to use as shims on a motor shaft. True Value wanted $2.79 each! Bill had them at the correct price, 12 cents each. His advice is not always needed, but I listen anyway and usually learn something I did now know before. Also his advice is priceless when you do need it. Make Dumont Hardware your first stop. You may not need to make a second stop.”

My experience is that the present management is courteous, competent and helpful. I'm in the store 2 times a month or more and am very pleased to have them here in Hastings. They give me 5 star service but I'm male. I think the problem lies with one employee and not the others.
