Nestled in the picturesque countryside of western Onondaga County, Carpenter's Brook Fish Hatchery has been a local treasure since its inception in 1938. Operated as a joint venture between Onondaga County and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, this county-run hatchery produces over 70,000 Brook, Brown, and Rainbow Trout annually, which are used to stock over 100 miles of streams and 10,000 acres of impoundments. Visitors can enjoy a variety of activities, including feeding the fish, exploring the tanks and troughs to learn about the different species, and even trying their hand at catch-and-release fishing in the designated pond. The hatchery also boasts a charming Pheasant exhibit, a small playground, and ample picnic tables and pavilions for visitors to enjoy a peaceful lunch. While the office may be closed at times, the grounds remain open for the public to explore and appreciate the natural beauty and wildlife. Whether you're looking for an educational outdoor adventure or a serene spot for a picnic, Carpenter's Brook Fish Hatchery offers a delightful experience for visitors of all ages.

Just a beautiful fish hatchery. Worth checking out. Picnic tables and restrooms on site. Can purchase fish food too for the trout. Very reasonable prices for the fish food.

Fun to see the Brook & Brown trout but disappointing that the office was closed in the middle of the week, though there were six cars in the lot? Where was everyone??
