Cute little trout hatchery. Lots of fish to feed, a playground, picnic area and restroom. Great little stop for inexpensive earthy fun

I was there with some friends to photograph dragonflies and other insects. Ate lunch at one of the picnic tables. I see a playground but had no one to try it out.

Fishing it the tiny pond was phenomenal, guys helped us and had extra rods and bait to use. Must've caught 30 trout in 2 hours. There are brookies, brownies, and rainbows for viewing, but you can only fish for rainbows there. The fish were pretty big too.
Located on picturesque countryside in western Onondaga County, the Hatchery was originally developed and operated as a joint venture between Onondaga County and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service under a Works Project Administration Grant. One of only four county run hatcheries in the state, Carpenter's Brook has been in continuous operation since its inception in 1938 and produces 70,000+ Brook, Brown and Rainbow Trout annually. Staff and volunteers take great pride in stocking over 100 miles of streams and 10,000 acres of impoundments with 100% of the D.E.C. recommendations for these waters. PLEASE NOTE: Fishing licenses are not sold on the premises.
