I had to ask an older lady for help and she knew exactly what esoteric thing I was describing and where each item was. Check-out was a bit slow as the lady cashier seemed flustered by a line four people long (one with a request to gift wrap a purchase), but we customers were all patient.”

“Of course, I bare a local bias in reviewing mom and pop shops. Though this version of H&H is the 2nd location along Castle Hill Avenue, their 1st location currently held by Havana Cafe, the current iteration maintains the same ownership. When you enter, you're guaranteed a friendly and knowledgeable staff with plenty of dry goods in stock. Prices, even on this time of inflation, are very reasonable. Yes, brick and mortar shops seem passe in the days of cybershopping. And big corporate companies seem to tempt shoppers with online offers and easy sales. That being said, there's just no substitute for local businesses!”

Just tell them what type of lumber you need and the cut dimensions. In a few minutes, you're driving off with precision cut lumber. The quality of the lumber in many cases is superior to what you would find at big box stores.”

“I was visiting the area and discovered my internet, and google maps feature did not work on my phone when I got to New York from Calgary, Alberta, Canada. I was on the phone to my cell phone provider tech support for 2 hours between three calls, and they couldnt figure it out. I drove around in circles for hours, from JFK airport and ended up at this shop looking for a map to buy. The owner got his son and he figured out how to download a map and use it off line. It got me to where I need to go. I wll never fotget how the little discount store in the Bronx help me out and would not accept anything in return. This tells me they are very very good people here.
