I used a gift card to buy what looked like grey towels on their website only to open the package to lavender towels. Their response? Too bad it was the lighting you eceived the correct towels. Now... understand.... I was not asking for a REFUND simply to exchange for other towels that actually cost more but were ACTUALLY grey and was told absolutely not we cannot exchange because you used a gift card. So even though I do not live near NYC and had never heard of this I went from possibly using the site for things year round to blocking their contact. AVOID AVOID AVOID.

I've purchased furniture and jewelry from this store for over a decade, but have noticed the security guard and staff tailing me the past few visits. I've even visited with my Caucasian friend who wears a massive coat and carries a giant bag, and she's left alone while the security guard follows me from one side of the store to the other. I did notice the only other Asian person besides me in the shop (it was relatively empty on a Saturday afternoon) was an employee, so there's that. I've discussed this with other Asian friends, and the consensus seems to be that ABC is comfortable with the idea of Asian people making their goods / laboring for them, but not having the disposable income to shop there. Anyway, you can find the same designers and similar antiques elsewhere, so I'll probably frequent Asian-owned shops and Etsy instead. Thanks for the lesson!

I cannot say enough about the customer service with this store. Really just amazingly helpful. Particular kudos to Sarah M., who followed up my question by sending a photo and calling me on the phone. This is why I'm a customer for life!

Snooty customer service and unhelpful sales people. I bought a sectional from abc and the fabric got damaged. So I called to see if they can provide help on procuring fabric so I can repair. They didn't even bother looking into it. For the kind of money I spent I would have expected more friendly and helpful service. They act like they can't be bothered with. Overpriced and not worth it. Save your money and go somewhere else.

I loved ABC carpet. I have always considered it one of my favorite places to shop for gifts and home furnishings until I bought furniture there that has fallen apart and was misrepresented. I bought what I was told was an oak bed, dresser and bedside tables, and couldn't have been happier. Then a little more than a year later my solid oak dresser and end tables started cracking and the thin oak veneer lifted up on its own to reveal composite wood underneath. I bought furniture labeled as OAK. I would not have purchased it if it said oak veneer. ABC misrepresented what they sold me. I would call this FRAUD. ABC would not do anything to make this right. DO NOT SHOP here. You never know what you are buying, AND if you want furniture that only lasts a year, you might as well go to Ikea and spend a lot less money.

Well, I will say for all of you who have money to shop for some unusual and well made things for your home, and also for jewelry, go to ABC! I hadn't been back in years, and they no longer have an upstairs but they do have a downstairs, but I was going to lunch and didn't get the opportunity to look. It's a special place to get some of the best quality lamps, bedding, glasses, etc.Anyone looking for a unique gift should be able to find it here! I went around 'oohing and ahhing'! Lovely.

Love this store and their selection. If you go, ask for Diego! He is super knowledgeable, patient and fun to work with! Came for one items and left with a houseful!

I was very disappointed to find that what once was a wide variety over multiple floors has now been reduced to the main floor and basement which includes both Home and Carpet. Was done in about 10 minutes. Unfortunate.

Company does not stand by its products and the quality is terrible for the price. DO NOT ORDER FROM THEM. I ordered a king sized bed and it arrived with damaged legs. Under the previous owner, the company was accommodating and offered to replace the bed, but that took more than 14 months to deliver. During that time, I was not allowed to cancel or get a refund. The second bed arrived but it also had...damaged legs! At this point the company was under new ownership. I provided photos of the damaged legs and asked for a refund, no longer trusting the quality of their products. The company offered to replace the legs but said they couldn't do anything more than that. In less than seven months of owning the bed, the upholstered fabric started showing signs of discoloration. I provided photos to the company to show the discoloration. The company has said it might be a "spill" or sun damage. It is very clearly not a spill as in one photo, the fading is in a perfectly straight line. No other furniture in my apartment has any sun damage after years of use, let alone after just seven months. They subsequently said that because they can't prove the discoloration is some kind of stain that they won't do anything. This bed currently retails for $3,300. DO NOT ORDER FROM ABC. If anything is wrong you could wind up stuck with a very expensive item with serious quality issues and no recourse.

Mourning the death of the world's most magical store. I've been a customer of ABC Carpet for 30 years, it used to be the place where the most incredible artist creations were sold. Once five or six floors of the most beautiful home goods with another building of rugs across the street, it was bustling with people shopping for the most special, quality items in the world. They carried the most elegant, chic, and beautiful products of the most lovely quality. The most amazing independent designers were discovered by whoever the brilliant buyers were. Alongside celestial velvet handmade pillows they sold the most gorgeous antiques, store display like no other. This store was in its own stratum, there never was and never will be anything else like it. The most chic people shopped here for good reason. Breathtakingly beautiful jewelry, Christmas decorations, luxury linens, clothing, crystals, velvet pillows in ethereal colors, furniture, kitchen items, clothing and accessories, all products that are either not available elsewhere or difficult to find. Tastemaker, this store truly delivered magic. I returned recently and was so saddened to see it is like a warehouse outlet of the old store, some of the old products scattered around in insignificant quantities, no new lines or products, none of the old staff, none of the beautiful display, none of the old shoppers. It is gone. Maybe you will find the designers they used to carry, elsewhere: Ulla Johnson, Tracy Tanner, Celine D'Aoust, Margaret Solow, Debbie Fischer, Frette, Kataoka, Blackbird and the Snow, Oficine Creative, Astier de Villette, Deborah Ehrlich, Cursive, Matta NY, John Derian, Anke Dreschel, Riess, Mud Australia, Loebmyer, Bonne Notte, are the few I can think of for now. Not sure the functionality of Yelp but please add any brands that they carried throughout the years if possible.

I bought a rug for $1600 from ABC Carpet this year. The rug came with no special cleaning instructions. One day it rained and the wind blew about a dozen drops of water through an open window onto the rug, leaving a dozen stains. I tried more water to get the stains out--just more stains--then a commercial rug cleaner, which left a huge splotch. I called a rug cleaner that ABC recommends and asked them if they could cut the stain out--about 30 inches of rug--and finish the edge. They said they could but would have to clean it first. The cleaning caused discoloration everywhere, leaving no reason to cut it. They tried cleaning it at least three times, leaving the rug not only discolored, but a wee bit ragged. "The foundation of the rug has been painted" causing the color run, said the recommended cleaners. I contacted ABC for a partial refund. They said my only recourse was with the cleaners. I said, no, that water stained the rug, just plain water, that the rug was defective. Since the rug is usable because I can cover MOST of the worst stains with a couch, I only asked for a partial refund, even telling customer service that they could give it to me in a credit. ABC again told me to contact the cleaners. How is it the cleaners' fault if just water stained the rug? This has gone on for months before a manager said with finality that there would be no compensation. Of course, this is a first-world problem and no one was injured or died, but shame on ABC.

Terrible customer service. Canceled an order for a bed days after placing it with little regard. They've been around for a long time, but I find little reason for them to still exist.
